Getting a tattoo is an experience that many people look forward to. Picking out something you want on your body forever is a special process. You want to make sure that you are prepared and have the right artist and photo to showcase to the tattoo artist so that they can get it right. However, there are many different things that can go wrong when going for a tattoo.
If you don’t go to the right artist, you might not get what you want.

Researching your tattoo artist is an extremely important task because you want to make sure that they are experts in the style you want to get done. If you go to a random artist, you don’t know that they are going to be able to replicate exactly what you want in a design.
And, there are a ton of “pro-tips” people share about getting a tattoo done, too.

To prep for your tattoo appointment, people always say to eat a big meal and drink a ton of water beforehand, starting with the night before. On top of that, they say to wear comfortable clothing so that you don’t feel restricted.
One of the biggest rules is not to drink alcohol before getting a tattoo.

Drinking alcohol before getting a tattoo is frowned upon by tattoo artists and doctors alike. The reason behind this is because alcohol is a blood thinner and when you’re getting tattooed if you are drinking, you’ll bleed a lot more.
Not to mention, you want to be sober to see what you’re getting done.

Not to mention it’s important to know what you’re doing before you actually get it done. You definitely don’t want to be drunk when someone is putting a piece of art that will stay on your body forever—especially so you can make sure it’s exactly what you want.
One TikTok user recently learned the “hard way” when she showed up drunk to her tattoo appointment.

One TikTok user, @ madmachen , shared that she had requested a small, dainty tree from her tattoo artist, but didn’t speak up much or notice when she was getting a full-on Christmas tree tattooed onto her wrist. She said she was “too drunk” to realize how bad it was.
She said now everyone thinks she “loves Christmas.”

The TikTok user revealed that the tree is definitely not what she expected, as she wanted something more small and thin. Instead, she has something that resembles a Christmas tree and she’s “reminded every time she uses her hand for anything.”
Many were surprised that she was allowed to get her tattoo done while being intoxicated.

Many users in the comments mentioned that they were “surprised” and even a little shocked because she was still allowed to get tattooed despite being drunk. Most artists will not want to tattoo someone who has been drinking beforehand.
In the comment section, she revealed she had margaritas at lunch prior to her appointment.

“I feel like I should mention that I wasn’t drunk. The fact that I had margaritas at lunch was not noticeable. I had 3 (at most) over about a 2hr span,” the TikTok user wrote in the comment section.
The TikTok user said she’s also been working on being more “vocal.”

It’s hard to tell an artist that you’re not happy with their work.
“I sometimes get anxious when speaking up about what I want. It’s taken a long time, but I’ve learned I have to be very vocal during tattoo appointments,” the TikTok user said in the comment section.
Others on the app suggested she get a “reworking.”

Many suggested that because the tattoo is so small, she can get a reworking and things added to it, as well. One person suggested adding an arrow or even some shading to help fix the “Christmas” look and maybe adding font.
Lesson learned: don’t drink and ink.

If there is a lesson to be learned from social media users and their stories, it’s that we can learn a lot from strangers. One lesson to be learned here today is that you should not drink before you plan to get ink.
