When it comes to being a guest at a wedding , there is a definite list of dos and don’ts. Don’t be boisterous, don’t call attention to yourself, and never wear white.
Recently, a Reddit user posted a picture of her stepmother sporting a white lace dress to her wedding. But ironically enough, it was her choice of footwear that had the internet reeling.

Weddings are a celebration of life and love. They symbolize the coming together of two souls who have acknowledged their counterparts in one another.
Weddings are a time for dancing, for stuffing your face with delicious food, and for leaving your inhibitions at the door.
However, that’s not to say that a wedding is a free pass to eat, drink, be merry, and do whatever the hell you feel like. When it comes to being a guest, there is a certain etiquette that one should follow.
For instance, you should never show up empty handed to a friend or family member’s nuptials.
This boils down to good manners. When you were a kid, would you ever show up to a birthday party without a gift in hand? I don’t think so, and weddings are no exception to this rule.
Another thing you should never do is bring an uninvited plus-1.
Unless your wedding invitation explicitly says that you’re able to invite a guest — don’t do it. The cost of adding just one extra person can wind up costing the bride and groom hundreds of dollars.
Lastly, and most importantly of all — you never wear white.
White is reserved for the bride and the bride alone. The worst thing you could ever do is call attention away from her on her special day. Usually, this goes without saying. But for one bride, sadly — this wasn’t the case.
A couple’s recent wedding photo is currently making the rounds on Reddit and it’s sent the internet into a tailspin.
According to the photo’s caption, the woman on the bride’s left is her stepmother. Clearly, this woman did not understand the assignment and chose to wear a white lace dress.
As if her dress wasn’t bad enough, the stepmother’s choice of footwear is arguably even worse!
The stepmother could’ve worn heels, pumps, flats, — even sandals! But instead, she chose to do away with all formalities and don black leather-laced boots, complete with faux fur.
Luckily, husband and wife appeared to be in good spirits about the whole situation.
The bride captioned the photo, “The face you make when you realize your stepmother is wearing a white lace dress to your wedding .” She didn’t even make mention of the black boots!
The rest of Reddit, however, was not as forgiving or understanding.
“So, not only a white dress, but what look[sic] like black Uggs. And the groom’s wearing brown shoes with black pants. Quite the fashion duo,” Reddit user napsdufroid said .
“When I scrolled down to see the shoes, I literally almost spat my coffee,” Redditor FaePropaganda said bluntly.
“The bride at least can rest easy knowing their dress was absolutely no comparison, gorgeous,” they continued .
Clearly, this bride wasn’t about to let anything ruin her special day, but there’s no denying this was a selfish decision for the stepmother to make.
So in order to avoid a similar calamity, always air on the side of caution.
If you think your choice of attire might turn some heads, it’s always best to ask first. Better yet, if you have to ask — don’t do it at all. Brides have enough things to worry about without having to wonder whether or not you’re going to try and steal their thunder.
