For those of us abroad, it may feel like time is standing still as we wait for further large developments from Ukraine or Russia amidst the invasion taking place, but for citizens living there, life continues on.
This is especially true for parents , doubly so for new parents, like one Ukrainian beauty influencer who had to give birth in a bombed maternity hospital, having survived the attack just days prior.
Six weeks ago, a Ukrainian beauty blogger announced her pregnancy on Instagram.
Mariana Vishegirskaya notes in the post that it was very difficult to keep it hidden, but she was excited to share the joy she was feeling with her audience.
However, she had no idea of the stressful events that awaited just weeks after her announcement.
Her last update regarding her pregnancy, and to Instagram in general, was one week ago.
The caption discussed how she hadn’t yet shared whether she was having a boy or a girl, and instead encouraged her followers to guess seeing as her due date was near.
More recent photos show just what that due date was like in the middle of a warzone.
These photos show Vishegirskaya and her husband in Mariupol hospital with their newborn baby girl.
Vishegirskaya, understandably, looks tired and a little beaten up, but both her and her husband are holding their baby close and cherishing this moment, even if it’s far from what they expected seeing what happened just days before.
Vishegirskaya survived a Russian airstrike that hit the maternity hospital.
Another photo shows Vishegirskaya descending some stairs before she gave birth, the destroyed remains of other areas of the hospital behind her, and evidence of recent injury on her face.
She survived an airstrike that Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russian troops of being purposefully direct, a strike that killed three people and wounded 17 others.
Her strength throughout this situation is extremely commendable.
Though it’s been a rough introduction to motherhood, her family remains safe and her baby is healthy. Hopefully, the three are able to find somewhere more secure to stay and will soon be able to raise their baby girl in peace.
