The way in which young children intuitively take to technology is nothing short of miraculous. Any parent who presumes their child “doesn’t know how” is in for a world of surprise.
It’s a lesson that most parents come to learn the hard way . Such was certainly the case for a Texas mother after her 2-year-old son got hold of her phone and ordered 91 McDonald’s cheeseburgers .
Until you become a parent, it’s hard to comprehend just how quickly kids can manage to get themselves into trouble.
One minute, they’re playing with their toys and building castles in the sand. The next minute, they’re climbing on top of the jungle gym pretending to fly.
If left unattended, kids can even find ways to get their parents into some sticky situations.
When I was a kid, the most trouble you could get into with a phone was to get caught making crank phone calls. These days, however, things have gotten much worse.
Recently, a Texas mother by the name of Kelsey Burkhalter Golden received an unexpected surprise courtesy of her 2-year-old son.
After Kelsey’s toddler managed to fleece her phone from her grasp, the boy “accidentally” ordered 31 McDonald’s cheeseburgers, through DoorDash.
“Apparently my 2 yr old knows how to order DoorDash,” Kelsey joked via Facebook.
Kelsey also saw fit to include a photo of her son, looking incredibly pleased with himself, sitting next to his cheesy proverbial pot of gold.
Kelsey was also in the mood to share, declaring to all her followers, “I have 31 free cheeseburgers from McDonald’s if anyone is interested.”
The total bill for the 31 cheeseburgers came to a jaw-dropping $91.70 . Her son also included a generous tip for the delivery driver that came to an even $16.
Kelsey elaborated to local news station KRIS 6 News that she’d been busy on the computer when her son snatched the phone away.
At the time, she didn’t think anything of it. Kelsey explained that her little Hamburgler enjoys playing with the camera, and she figured he was doing just that.
“He usually likes to take pictures of himself, and so he was doing that,” Kelsey recalled to the news team.
” I thought I’d locked the phone but apparently, I didn’t, because then DoorDash came with 31 cheeseburgers ,” the young mother said.

Understandably, Kelsey was confused as to what she should do with the mountain of cheeseburgers.
“I didn’t know what to do with them, he only ate half of one,” Kelsey revealed. ” So I posted on a community page on Facebook here in Kingsville and asked if anybody wanted some .”
Kelsey’s generous offer didn’t go unheard, as several members of her community decided to stop by her house for a quick bite.
Her son was more than happy to share his bounty. ” One girl came by and picked up six ,” Kelsey said with a smile.
When asked how she planned on preventing a similar mistake from happening in the future, Kelsey said she’d have to look into it.
“ I guess I need to hide the app or something because DoorDash is not protected ,” she said jokingly.
Facebook user Kristina Mink Hart reminded Kelsey that things could’ve been much worse.
“At least it is cheeseburgers!” she wrote in the comments. “My daughter let her baby 1-1/2 year old[sic] play with her phone. Somehow he clicked on Amazon and ordered 3 iPhones .”
I’d take 91 cheeseburgers over 3 iPhones, any day.
