Car expert James May has been in a relationship with art critic Sarah Fraster since the year 2000, but he recently said that it would be ‘weird’ to become a father.
He spoke about his life on Driven podcast
According to Oxford Mail, the TV presenter shared the decision to not have kids on the Driven podcast, saying, “Let’s put that down to being a late developer.”
“I’ve got nieces and nephews of many ages,” he shared.
May is happy as an uncle
The 62-year-old motorhead said he is happy as an uncle and that the idea of raising kids now as an older father would be ‘weird’ and ‘unfair’.
Last year, he spoke with The Times, saying, “Maybe ‘unfair’ was a bit strong, but when I was at school there was a boy whose dad was the same age as my granddad and it felt weird.”
He referenced Al Pacino’s old relationship
The TV presenter referenced Al Pacino’s previous relationship with Noor Alfallah, with the former being 84 years old and Alfallah being 30. The two separated only last year after having a son together.
“And that actor who recently had a child with a much younger woman?” May added.
May wondered how it would be for the kid
“He’s not going to be around very much is he? Then again, you can be young and still not be around much, so who knows?” May continued.
“Maybe it’s just reaching the age where you don’t care so much what others think.”
He shared exactly what he’ll be doing in 2025
“My resolution for 2025 is: be a bloke. Don’t be ashamed of it. I think blokes are having a bit of a hard time at the moment,” May said.
“That’s not to say women are not too, but there is a small but vocal group who hold middle-aged men in contempt.”
The presenter urged people to be practical
May spoke to his generation, “We are supposedly boomers who had it too easy but I don’t believe that. I think most men are OK and need to stand up for themselves a bit more.”
He also added, “Our job is to be practical, dependable, philosophical and, yes, poets to some extent.”
May celebrated his relationship on Valentine’s
Only recently for Valentine’s Day, May wrote a sweet message about his plans with art critic Sarah Fraster.
Taking to X/Twitter, he wrote, “It’s St Valentine’s day. So later on I, for one, will be cooking Sainsbury’s chicken pie with delicious BirdsEye frozen peas for my best girl, followed by a massive piece of cheeeese. Men – make the effort.”
The two have been in a happy relationship for 25 years now and counting!
