It’s easy to forget that just fifteen years ago, camera phones didn’t really exist — and those that did weren’t great as cameras or as phones. If you wanted to have a camera with you on all times, that meant lugging an actual camera around.
Now that we live in a time when everyone has a high-quality camera in their pocket at all times, we’re seeing more awesome photos than ever before.
“When you hit and run but also want to exchange information quickly and get on your way.”

Here’s why you shouldn’t do a hit and run: it’s illegal, it isn’t cool and you might leave incriminating evidence behind…evidence like an imprint of your license plate.
“Train comes out of the tunnel in Oita, Japan.”

This is just a spectacular photo. The fact that it’s coming out of a tunnel and that the track ahead is covered in forest makes it easy to forget that there are train tracks there at all.
“Bird catching a meal.”

Birds have to eat, just like the rest of us. I don’t know what kind of bug this is, but at least it died in the act of giving us a great picture.
“God will break this one up.”

I’d like to see a photo taken two seconds later. Did the dogs continue their beef, or did the lightning strike end things then and there?
“These lines appeared in the sky in upstate NY at 4am! No idea what they are!”

I’m going to say this weather phenomenon has something to do with ice crystals suspended in the air. It’s either that or aliens.
“This shadow creating a perfect gradient.”

I can’t even begin to describe what’s going on here. How can a shadow be transparent? Maybe this is one of those nature mysteries that science can answer, but I can’t.
“A water drop.”

We all know that water will return to a flat state if left undisturbed. But when something upsets the balance, it makes for some fantastic photo ops.
“The cat stepped perfectly in blue and pink paint of the sign I was making!”

If this was my house, I’d be very tempted to just leave those aesthetically pleasing cat prints there and make them a permanent part of my decor.
“Was eating orange slices until I found half yellow and half orange ones. Very cool.”

I wonder if the two halves taste any different from each other. That ruby red section looks downright tantalizing.
“The setting sun.”

The way the sun is centered over the lighthouse, making for an epic reflection on the water below, makes this a pic that’s worth framing.
“Neighbor randomly showed up with 20lbs of bologna.”

I don’t know what one does in this situation other than pick up several loaves of bread and bottles of yellow mustard. And of course the doggies want to help, as you’d expect.
“Had a photoshoot with my cousin several years ago, and captured this gem. Still makes me laugh like a madman.”

Photoshoots are good because they’ll give everyone some solid photos of friends and loved ones. If you’re really lucky, though, you’ll capture something like this.
“5 Years ago today I took this photo of my buddy crashing into the water barrels during an autoX event.”

This reminds me of when I boot up Gran Turismo and try to go way too hard in a Honda Civic. Love that they captured the water shooting up in the air, too.
“Broom setup on our local garden store.”

I would imagine that the largest factor in getting this beautiful broom structure built was boredom. If so, those garden center employees must have been crazy bored.
“Tree fell without touching bench.”

Benches aren’t sentient, but if they were, that bench would be thanking its lucky stars that it was spared. And anybody sitting on the bench at the time would be doing so as well.
“Giant fish.”

This would be a terrible photo — crooked and blurry — without the fish. So props to the fish for making this one come together — and doing it in style, flying through the air with the greatest of ease.
“She found her cat 16 days after a tornado.”

Finding your beloved cat in the wreckage of a tornado wouldn’t bring your home or possessions back, but it would feel like a miracle regardless.
“I was in St. Peter’s Basilica this afternoon, people for scale.”

People in the past often lived in small dwellings with short doorways, but then they turned around and built massive cathedrals like this. It’s like there was no middle ground.
“I captured this shot of a sandhill crane at the exact moment it was perpendicular to me, so you can see straight through its nostrils.”

It took me a second to see its nostrils, but once I did, it became clear that this was a one-in-a-million shot.
“A happy baby elephant rushing towards me.”

This photo just warms my heart. However your day might be going, this happy baby elephant should make it just a little bit better.
