Another year, another countdown from a cultural beacon to let us know what [insert media here] is widely considered the best. This time, it’s television shows , as the Rolling Stone has updated their ‘100 Greatest TV Shows of All Time’ list.
You know the top spot already, but what else changed? What stayed the same? We’ll cover the top ten here!
Rolling Stone has released a monumentous list.

It counts down the ‘100 Greatest TV Shows of All Time’ . In their own words, it’s a “ranking of the most game-changing, side-splitting, tear-jerking, mind-blowing, world-building, genre-busting programs in television history […].”
The last time they wrote this list was in 2016 , so they figured it was due for an update.
Their previous champion has returned for another victory.

That’s right, for the second time, they ranked The Sopranos at number one, dubbing it the best TV show out there.
In this list, author Alan Sepinwall says The Sopranos “took a torch to every written and unwritten rule that TV storytelling had been governed by since the days of Gunsmoke .”
A few changes in the top ten were made, though.

The Wire held the runner-up spot in 2016, but it’s now been moved to fourth, with The Simpsons taking it’s place, up from sixth.
Breaking Bad remains in third, Fleabag bumps Seinfeld from fifth to sixth, and Mad Men drops from fourth to seventh. Rounding out the rest of the updated top ten is Cheers , Atlanta , and The Mary Tyler Moore Show .
Seems quite a few opinions have changed in the last six years!

Not just that of critics, but our own too! There has been so much good television over the past few years that maybe your favorite show has changed, or maybe your top 10 has been totally overhauled since 2016.
One thing will always stay the same, though, and that’s The Sopranos being number one in the hearts of viewers everywhere.
