Sunisa Lee , a.k.a. Suni Lee, had a great run as a college gymnast with Auburn University, but it appears it’s all ending soon. In a new video via her Instagram feed, she announced that this would be her last season with the War Eagle as she gears up to return to elite gymnastics.
The next Olympics is in Paris 2024, and Lee needs time to practice and get in the proper form to compete at that level. Competing at the college level has its perks and intricacies, but it’s no elite sport, and the athlete knows that.

Back To Elite Competition
Lee promised to do her best for Auburn this season while crediting the college for teaching her “true teamwork,” but she doesn’t want her Olympic moment to be once in a lifetime. During her farewell speech, Lee said competing for Auburn was a dream come true, like the Olympics.
She said she knows what she has to do to get there while encouraging little girls with big dreams to continue pursuing them. The official gymnastics page replied to her saying, “All the Love.”
The Olympics Are Different
Lee needs to take ample breaks before the Olympics because the routines and scoring system are different. She needs to brush up on her skills and add to them if possible since she’ll face off against some athletes who’ve been preparing longer than her.
Team USA isn’t lacking without her, but it won’t reject her if she qualifies. The team won the world title last month thanks to Shilese Jones, who finished with all-around silver. Lee isn’t the first Olympian to take a break after a significant season – Simone Biles and Aly Raisman once did.
One Year Of Being Named The Women’s All-Around Champion
Although Biles isn’t active now, there’s no telling if she’ll join Lee at the Olympics. Lee earned her first gold medal when she filled in for Biles in Tokyo 2020 (2021 because of Covid).
She celebrated the first anniversary of her win as the Women’s All-Around Olympic champion. Lee reiterated her self-promise never to stop dreaming and keep chasing her dreams.
Successful At College Level
As an Auburn athlete, Lee took the runner-up position at the NCAA Championships and won the balance beam title. Her success placed Auburn in fourth place, the school’s best finish. Earlier in the year, Lee scored 10s all-around in the invitationals. As she says, the champion’s come a long way from the girl that practiced on makeshift balance beams.
