One of the home design elements that I’ve always admired is stairways. There is something truly majestic about a beautifully thought-out concept. It can be a wonderful addition to your home .
However, sometimes designers seem to only focus on the aesthetics and completely forget about the usefulness or even safety of their creations. The following examples are those everybody should steer clear of, that’s for sure.

1. This Nightmare Concept
Is it just me, or do you feel like you would be playing musical chairs going down these stairs? This is by far the weirdest stairwell design I have ever seen. Apparently, it’s space-saving, but no thanks. I value my legs way too much.
2. This Death Trap
It can’t be easy to retrofit stairs into an old home. I admit that. But having said that, I still believe they could have done better than this. What do you think? It’s a death trap, right?

If you thought this was a stairwell, you would be wrong, my friend. Somebody thought it would be a good idea to design a waterfall like this. And now unsuspecting people are walking into it and falling. That’s so dumb and dangerous, no?

The more I look at this stair design here, the more I get confused. I can see how you can climb up, but getting down would present a ton of problems. How do you even hang on to that railing?
7. This Curious Choice
I want to know how does one come out of this room and not tumble to their death? I’m being serious here. That is the only thing I can think of when I look at this odd design choice here.
8. This Optical Illusion
Are these actual stairs, or is this an optical illusion? I have to admit when I see something like this, I’m pretty much scared for my life. How does one even get down here? Where’s an elevator when you need one?
9. This Total Conundrum
If somebody directed you to these stairs because you were lost, what would you think when you got there? Perhaps this is that one moment during your trip when you actually have some time to stop and think.
10. These Stairs For Giants
Being only 5’3, I’m on the cusp of petite. Why am I telling you this? Well, these stairs are exactly a foot tall, so I would have some trouble climbing them. Does a giant live here or what?
11. This Total Nightmare
Since I grew up in Europe, I’m used to walking on cobblestone. However, I don’t ever recall encountering stairs like these before. I think I would prefer to crawl down instead of walking. How about you, huh?
12. This Brilliant Idea
I thought I witnessed plenty of stair designs that are, well, pretty dumb. But when I look at this one, I have found my new favorite. I love the extra storage space, but I don’t want a near-death experience every time I come down these stairs.
13. These Floating Stairs
Here’s what I suggest to all of you. If you like the look of floating stairs, sure install them in your house. But use them as a decoration only piece because nobody wants to end their life like this.
14. This Ball Buster Design
I don’t know about you, but I feel pain when I look at this design here. Imagine if you happened to fall down these stairs. I fear for every guy — it’s quite the ball buster design, eh?

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you stairs at a movie theater. Whoever designed these must have been out of their mind or something because they’re a tripping hazard. But it’s no joke — I would totally fall if I used these.

Wait a minute. I see stairs here, but where do they lead to, huh? Nowhere? Whoever thought this concept through must be completely bonkers. And it’s a huge hazard because you could just tumble and go straight to heaven.
17. These Chic Stairs
Somebody had to go all the way to Monaco to discover these chic stairs here. Are those silver rivets supposed to prevent you from falling? Yeah, I don’t think so. There’s no way they’re going to work. Nice try, though.
18. This Baffling Design
These are definitely beautiful-looking stairs here. Somebody put a lot of work into making them so even and shiny. So why didn’t they put the railing in the middle as usual? This design is confusing AF, no?
Oh my goodness.
I might not be a designer, but I definitely can recognize major flaws here. What were these people thinking? Have they lost their marbles? I have so many questions, but sadly they will go unanswered. Are you as baffled by these stair designs as I am?
