Sofia Richie, daughter of Lionel Richie and currently starring on Keeping Up With The Kardashians as Scott Disick’s girlfriend, just caught a lot of heat for a post she made on Instagram.
If you’ve seen ‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians’ lately, you know who Sofia Richie is.
The 21 year old model came into a new level of fame for briefly dating singer Justin Bieber, and then moving on to Kourtney Kardashian’s ex-husband and father of her children, Scott Disick.
This was a pretty controversial development.
Disick himself is 36 years old, and the over-a-decade age difference between the couple lead to quite a few raised eyebrows and sarcastic tweets when they began dating.
Sofia has just got herself into a new controversy with her most recent Instagram post.
The post seems innocent enough without any context.
“Santa Ana winds- messy bun,” she wrote alongside an emoji of a woman covering her hair.
People immediately began criticizing her as the Santa Ana winds helped spread the Getty wildfires happening in California right now.
“And fires. Don’t forget the fires,” one commenter wrote.
“Santa ana winds means fires near you,” another commenter added.
Many were criticizing her for being insensitive to the people who had to evacuate and potentially lose their homes.
Others called her caption “tone-deaf.”
“When I lived in California and there was a fire down the road I had to pack up all my animals and evacuate several times. I’m so upset every time I hear about fires. These celebrities don’t seem to care about anything but themselves,” another commenter wrote.
Sofia hasn’t directly acknowledged the backlash but did share a message on her Instagram story.
“Sending my love and prayers to everyone affected by the fires. Tonight’s wind is going to be brutal. Please stay safe,” she wrote alongside a cartoon of a broken heart.
She also shared this to her story as well.
Over top of a news report discussing the spreading fires in California, Sofia wrote “No!!!” and added a praying hands emoji as well.
Another famous Sofia, Sofia Vergara, faced similar backlash last month for an Instagram post.
At the time, Hurricane Dorian was ripping through the Bahamas, causing deaths and forcing evacuations throughout the islands.
Leading up to the hurricane, Sofia Vergara made an Instagram post.
She shared some shots of herself and her friends enjoying a Bahamian vacation with the caption “Esperando a Dorian,”meaning, “waiting for Dorian.”
Sofia was called ‘tone deaf.’
“Must be nice,” wrote another commenter. “Here I sit wondering if I will have to evacuate, and will my pets be safe, will I have electricity soon after the storm. Very insensitive.”
Sofia then seemed to double down, posting a selfie on an airplane.
This one was captioned “Bye bye Dorian!” which to some felt like she was bragging about being able to leave the island, while some people were not able to.
What do you think? Are people being too sensitive, or should celebrities be more careful about what they’re posting online?
