Everyone has heard of botox . This is a cosmetic procedure that treats wrinkles and facial creases. It uses botulinum toxin type A, OnabotulinumtoxinA, to temporarily prevent a muscle from moving.
But what about hair botox? It’s an anti-aging hair treatment that leaves your hair looking shiny and sleek.

Don’t let the word “botox” fool you.
There are actually no needles involved in a hair botox treatment. There’s no toxin used, either. Instead, Kayla Ciambrone, a Florida-based pro stylist at Salon Gaudi , explained to Women’s Health that hair botox is actually natural.
“Hair botox is a 100 percent vegan, deep conditioning treatment that will keep your hair’s texture intact while leaving it smoother and more hydrated than before,” she explained.
“The name comes from the way the product works—as a filler for individual hair fibers, sealing split ends and giving hair a new sleekness and fullness to reduce frizz.”
Like botox, the hair version is meant to turn back the clock.
We’ve all experienced the pitfalls of using too much heat or damaging our hair from dyes. This causes the hair to become dry and brittle. Hair botox helps by bringing life into your locks again!
The hair will be sleeker, more volumized, and have fewer split ends.
Those prone to frizz will also love the benefits of hair that’s more moisturized.
Finally, the hair will be healthier as it’s deep conditioned with a filler, such as keratin, to fill in the hair cuticle’s damaged sections.
So, what’s the process of a hair botox treatment like?
First, hair experts always recommend that you only have it done by a licensed cosmetologist or stylist. They will be the ones to assess your hair and decide the best course of treatment.
“Depending on the texture of your hair and the desired result, the hair botox is left on your hair anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour,” explained Ciambrone.
Once it’s time to wash the product out, they will use a special pH-balancing shampoo and conditioner.
“Your hair is then blow-dried and flat ironed and cannot be washed or get wet for at least 48 hours,” Ciambrone said.
“I recommend 72 hours, if the client can wait.” Speaking of time, you can expect the treatment last around three months.
Pricing for hair botox can be anywhere from $150 to $300.
The cost depends on the length of the hair and the texture.
Although they’re similar, there are many differences between hair botox and a Brazilian blowout, also known as a keratin treatment.
A keratin treatment mainly uses the chemical formaldehyde to straighten the locks and eliminate frizz.
The results last longer than hair botox, as you’ll only need to revisit the salon after six months.
However, hair botox is a lot gentler, as it’s a natural treatment that provides cuticle support.
It’s great for those who aren’t looking to have their hair chemically straightened.
“It is a brilliant service that I think anyone with longer hair past their shoulders should experience once a year,” Holly Dear, a hairstylist and founder of House of Dear Haircare and House of Dear Hair Salon , told Southern Living .
If you’re up for hair botox, you can give it a try every couple of months.
To make your results last longer in-between treatments, Ciambrone recommends washing your hair with a sulfate- and paraben-free shampoo a few times per week and sleeping with a silk pillowcase.
