Charges have been laid in the fatal boat crash that occurred on August 24th involving Shark Tank ‘s Kevin O’Leary that resulted in two deaths.
Kevin O’Leary initially made a statement when news of the crash became public.
“Late Saturday night I was a passenger in a boat that had a tragic collision with another craft that had no navigation lights on and then fled the scene of the accident. I am fully cooperating with authorities,” he said .
His statement continued.
“Out of respect for the families who have lost loved ones and to fully support the ongoing investigation, I feel it is inappropriate to make further comments at this time. My thoughts are with all the families affected.”
O’Leary claimed that it was not him but his wife who was driving the boat, and that alcohol was not involved.
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged O’Leary’s wife with “careless operation of a vessel.”
The driver of the other boat was also charged.
The other driver was charged due to failing to have his lights on at the time of the crash.
The other boat not having lights on was the main defense O’Leary and his team used in this case.
The other driver insisted that his lights were on, but the OPP say that the video shows otherwise.
O’Leary made a statement to TMZ , saying, “Now that the authorities have concluded their thorough investigation, I have no further comment other than to say that our thoughts and prayers are with the friends and families of those who lost loved ones in this awful tragedy. Our hearts go out to them.”
Initially, both parties claimed the other boat had ‘fled’ the scene.
However, the OPP has now announced that both watercrafts left to “attend a location and both parties called 911.”
“I hope when it’s all said and done, it’s just an accident,” said one of the victim’s brother.
Our thoughts and condolences are with the families and loved ones of the victims at this time.
