Being a mom requires a lot of multitasking. You not only have to raise your children, but you have to do that while simultaneously doing tons of other things — getting them ready for school, making sure they’re fed, making sure they’re dressed, moderating arguments, monitoring what they’re watching on television, and for some moms, they’ve got to do a day job on top of all of that.
Sometimes, that day job is being a professional athlete.
Serena Williams can pretty much do it all.
Not only is she one of the best tennis players in the world right now (and possibly of all time), Serena is also the mother of 2-year-old daughter, Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr.
Serena recently played her first tennis match since the start of the pandemic against Bernarda Pera.
In a press conference after the match , Serena revealed that rather than being one hundred percent focused on the game the entire way through, at one point in the match, she was distracted by a very familiar sound that all moms are pretty attuned to.
“I think I heard her cough. I know my baby’s cough,” Serena said.
“She was drinking, and she was eating grapes. And I’m then like, oh my gosh is she chewing? Make sure you chew,” Serena explained. “I’m thinking, ‘Okay, Serena, stop looking over there,'” she continued, referring to where Alexis sat with Serena’s husband.
“So I didn’t look over there but I kind of flashed my husband a look,” Serena continued.
“Like, ‘make sure she’s chewing her grapes because she shouldn’t be coughing while she’s eating grapes.’ That’s the new mom in me and it’s good,” Serena said.
I can barely multi-task enough to walk and talk at the same time, but Serena is out here parenting while playing tennis — and winning the match anyway!
