Dustin Diamond, best known for his role as Samuel “Screech” Powers on the Saved by the Bell franchise, has revealed he has been diagnosed with stage four cancer , as reported by Entertainment Weekly . The news comes a week after Dustin was rushed to the hospital for an unknown condition.
Now, the actor’s reps are speaking out about the 44-year-old’s condition.
Dustin Diamond holds a special place in many ’90s kids hearts as “Screech” from the *Saved by the Bell* franchise.
Appearing in both the original series and the College Years spin-off, it’s hard to imagine the show without the beloved character.
Now, it has been revealed that the 44-year-old has been diagnosed with stage four cancer.
Speaking with People Dustin’s rep said, “We can confirm that Dustin does have cancer. It’s very serious, though we are still waiting for more details, which we will have shortly.”
“He’s in a lot of pain,” they added.
Dustin’s rep told Entertainment Weekly that the star is “undergoing chemo” for cancer and will remain at the hospital for “at least another week and then we will figure out when he gets to come home.”
Since the news of the diagnosis, fans have been sending messages of support to Dustin via social media.
Saved by the Bell co-star Mario Lopez tweeted : “I connected with Dustin earlier this evening and although the news of his diagnosis is heartbreaking, we remain positive that he’ll overcome this. Praying for him & his family and for a speedy recovery.”
