Marie Fredriksson, singer of the iconic Swedish pop rock duo Roxette, has passed away at the age of 61, as confirmed by the Swedish newspaper Expressen .
Roxette was famous for a number of hits, including ‘Listen To Your Heart.’
They also were behind such famous songs “The Look,” “It Must Have Been Love,” “Joyride,” “Dressed For Success,” “Dangerous,” and “Fading Like A Flower.”
Expressen confirmed Marie’s passing with a statement from her family.
“It is with great sadness that we have to announce that one of our biggest and most beloved artists is gone,” read the statement.
Their family confirmed her passing was related to her “previous illness.”
Marie had been diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2002, and had been fighting against the effects of the tumor including limited mobility, blindness in one eye, and limited hearing.
Her Roxette bandmate, Per Gessle, took to Twitter to express his condolences.
He wrote , ““Time goes by so quickly. It’s not that long ago we spent days+nights in my tiny apartment sharing impossible dreams.”
“And what a dream we eventually got to share!”
“I’m honoured to have met your talent+generosity. All my love goes to you+your family. Things will never be the same.”
