Comedian and actor Ricky Gervais recently shared the irony behind the reason why he only wears black t-shirts even though he is able to afford any piece of clothing he wants.
While our circumstances may change, some old habits never die, and for Gervais, a black t-shirt and sweatpants regardless of the occasion or time of day is one of them.
Gervais has been wearing the same shirt
Gervais is a comedian, actor, writer, director, producer, and musician, so he almost always has somewhere to be, and he usually shows up in a black t-shirt.
Based on most of his appearances in the last 20 years, Gervais seems to be fond of the garment.
He is seen in them everywhere
The Office actor appears almost everywhere in a black t-shirt; on stage, on talk shows, at the gym, or even just on the streets, the comedian is always in a black v-neck.
It leaves one wondering what could be the reason he likes it so much?
It’s basically become his brand now
Just like the co-founder of Apple, Steve Jobs, loves a good turtleneck, Ricky Gervais will always be seen rocking a black v-neck t-shirt.
Sometimes to spice things up, he’ll wear a long-sleeved version of the shirt, but it’s still a black one.
The actor can afford more
The Invention of Lying actor can afford more than the average v-neck shirt. According to Celebrity Net Worth, Gervais is reported to have a net worth of $160 million.
You’d think then that he would enjoy experimenting more with his style.
Gervais has explained his fashion choices
The Office actor has since been asked about his outfit choices many times, which led him to explain them on his Instagram account.
Posting a picture of himself wearing yet another black t-shirt, Gervais wrote about his history with the outfit.
He spoke about the past
Gervais wrote, “When I was really poor, I got so fed up having only t-shirts and old sweat pants to wear that I tried to make a suit out of curtains. Now I can afford to wear anything I want.”
Gervais mentioned the irony in it
Continuing with his explanation the actor said, “I could have suits made for me. But I decided I prefer t-shirts and old sweat pants.”
Someone commented on the post, “I made a suit out of a pair of curtains too, sometimes you just need to pull yourself together.”
Users thought the actor choices were commendable
Many people online went on to respond to the actor’s ironic explanation about his outfit choices, saying that his sustainable fashion choices are commendable.
They thanked the actor for what he does for animals and connected it with his sustainable mindset.
He donated to animal charities
Ricky Gervais has done a lot to help protect animals. Only last year, he donated to animal charities through the money raised from the ticket sales for his Armageddon world tour.
The sum sent to the animal charities was over $2.4 million.
The actor is known for his love for animals
Being a pet owner himself, Gervais has admitted that he prefers animals over people, “They’re just better than people. No offense.”
He continued, “They’re members of the family. They’ve got so much compassion. I mean, dogs do everything for us. They guard us, they guide us, they can smell cancer. They’re incredible.”
