There are many issues that can end up becoming the downfall of a relationship but jealousy has to be one of the fastest roads to a breakup .
After all, if you feel like you can’t spend any time with people because your partner will feel threatened by them by for some reason, that’s either going to lead to a very isolating situation or the decision that this relationship isn’t with the trouble.

And while I was stunned when my mom told me that a coworker’s husband saw a picture of me at the office and gave the woman the third degree about how she knew me, one recent case somehow seemed like even more of a red flag.
When one young woman explained her dilemma to Reddit, she first established that she met her best friend in a university art program.
As she said , she and this friend have since made a tradition of making art for each other.
In her words, “They have always been a bit on the nose, collages of drunken misdeeds and dodgy shaped pottery etc, everyone I’m close to is well aware of this tradition and we all tend to get a laugh out of it.”
Apparently, these pieces range from awful but nonetheless well-loved to artwork that genuinely seemed to take a lot of time and effort.
The most recent piece this woman received from her friend was in the second category and depicted her standing next to a male celebrity they both like.
As she would explain in a comment , the painting was a reworking of a standard fan meet-and-greet only with the woman swapped into the scene.
She said she loved it and while their friend group had some laughs over the cringey subject matter, they all agreed that it was a thoughtful gift.
One person who didn’t agree, however, was the woman’s boyfriend of two years.
After the painting was shared in the group chat, he sent her an angry text telling her it would be insulting to display that painting in her apartment while he was over. He also seemed to imply that she should get rid of it.
This floored the woman because she knew her friend had only painted this as a gift to her friend with no other intentions. As the woman put it, “She, like me, genuinely wouldn’t have considered something like that would be upsetting.”
With this in mind, she refused to get rid of the painting because her friend had put a lot of time into it and it seemed like a strange complaint to her since her boyfriend and his roommates have posters of women they like on their walls.
Although she has no plans to get rid of it, the woman said she was starting to doubt herself and wondered whether she should hide it.
Not only did most commenters think she shouldn’t have to do that, but they thought her boyfriend’s reaction was a big warning sign that her relationship would cause her more trouble than it’s worth in the long run.
As one person put it , “If your boyfriend is offended by you being in a painting with a celeb he’s not going to last long on a relationship at any point in his life.
Jealousy is toxic at the best of times but over a painting is ridiculous.”
In the words of another who found the boyfriend’s choice of decor odd given his strong feelings, “It would be a weird line to draw anyway over a painting of a celebrity, the hypocrite aspect just makes it worse.”
At present, it doesn’t sound like the woman is willing to go quite as far as breaking up with him, but because he’s never acted like this before, the incident has her “rethinking some things.”
