In 1985, Princess Diana and her husband, Prince Charles, were guests at a White House gala dinner. The princess accepted John Travolta’s invitation to dance to the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack and the resulting photos were shared around the world.
The dress that Diana was wearing became known around the world as the ‘Travolta Dress.’
Shortly before her death, Diana had the dress auctioned off for charity in 1997, where it was sold for 100, 000 pounds (or roughly $125, 000).
The dress was auctioned again in 2013.

This time it fetched 240, 000 pounds, or $362, 424, and was bought by a British man who was hoping it would be a nice surprise for his wife.
