Among some other exciting HBO Max announcements that have been made recently, it looks like they’re looking to expand on one of the largest horror series in recent years.
A prequel to the 2017 and 2019 films It and It Chapter Two is set to release on HBO Max. Though there’s little information to be had, what we do know points in a positive direction for the series’ likeliness to the films and the possibility for more world-building in the little town of Derry.
Time to toss on our rain jackets and head back to Derry, an ‘It’ prequel is in the works.

Welcome To Derry is the working title of the upcoming series. It’ll be set in the ’60s, some 20 years before the events of the 2017 It movie take place.
Though it appears to be extremely early in its development, the hype is already so real.
The director of the two recent ‘It’ films, Andy Muschietti, is set to return as an executive producer.

He’ll be producing alongside Barbara Muschietti, who was a producer on the first two films as well, and Jason Fuchs, who will also be writing the series.
While there’s no concrete plot, given the time period it takes place in, people are assuming it’ll explore another instance of the monster known as It waking up from its 27-year cyclical hibernation and wreaking havoc on Derry.
Fans may be hoping for something more, though.

There’s already speculation that this series may dive into more specific lore beats, like how It created the character of Pennywise, or more regarding Derry’s origins.
There are many untouched subplots from the book that could be brought up in this new series, an opportunity that It fans are hoping Welcome To Derry will take.
