Protect your ears.
One person said all young people should know to protect their ears.
From loud headphones to concerts, damaging your ears at a young age can be a mistake that you pay for down the road. Like, living with Tinnitus.
Salary isn’t everything when it comes to work.
“That salary amount is not the entirety of an equation when deciding where to work. You have to take into account the cost of living, commute times, the safety of the nearby area, and the convenience of living in the area,” one person shared.
Take care of your teeth.
Other people share that having healthy teeth is more important than just keeping them white. Brushing, flossing, and even using a water pick can help you in the long run.
“People still don’t believe me when I say that bad teeth can easily lead to cardiac arrest,” one person said.
Be nice to everyone while you can.
“That the cliche “you never know when it’s the last time you’ll see to someone” should absolutely be remembered for every occasion. My best friend just died in a car accident this past Saturday, and the last time I saw him we got in an argument and he left and we didn’t speak after that,” one person added.
Be weary of your finances
One person shared that learning to manage your finances is super important from an early age.
Another shared that having $1,000 is not a lot, but it is a lot to owe to someone else. A wise lesson for everyone!
Happiness comes from several places.
“That happiness usually comes from a diverse range of interests, hobbies, and commitments. You are not your job. Your romantic partner cannot be your everything, etc. It’s so easy to get sucked into a life where your career is everything or where you wrap your entire identity around your partner,” one commenter added.
Some things cannot be fixed.
Some people shared they wished that they knew that some actions cannot be undone. Once you do something so egregious, there is no going back to fix those errors or mistakes.
Sadly, many learn this too late in life.
No means no.
“That “no” is a complete sentence. Don’t get in the habit of auto-launching explanations and defenses – oftentimes, the people listening will ignore all that anyway and just hear ‘but here’s an opportunity to dissuade me, look how hard I’m working to get your approval to say no to you,'” one person shared.
Mistakes have consequences.
One person shared everyone should know that there are consequences for mistakes and wrongdoings.
Sometimes, the consequences can be worse than the mistakes, but you have to face them no matter what. It’s an opportunity to learn from your mistakes.
Walk away from bad people.
“The value of walking away from someone toxic in your life, even if it is your parents and family. If you are thinking of it and are scared and have somewhere where you can land in a safe place, then do it,” one person commented.
You don’t need to live big to live well.
Someone added that you don’t have to be living a lavish and extravagant life to be living a good life.
It’s okay to live simply and live quietly, behind the scenes, and still have quality and fun. Not everything has to be a social media story.
Be nice to yourself.
“Don’t ever think it’s ok to “talk” to yourself in a manner you wouldn’t let another human being talk to you.
