Family planning and the decisions around having children can be a really sensitive subject for many people, especially those who have struggled with pregnancy, so when celebrities discuss these issues, there can sometimes be controversy.
Paris Hilton is no stranger to headlines throughout her long and successful career, both good and bad. The latest headlines have surrounded her announcement that she and her boyfriend are moving forward with in vitro fertilization (IVF).
Paris Hilton has been an icon for almost two decades.
It seems impossible that we’ve been hearing Paris proclaim “That’s hot,” for almost twenty years, especially since she seems just as youthful as ever, but it’s true!
Fans grew to love Paris in The Simple Life and Paris Hilton’s New BFF , but continued to love her as an Instagram influencer, DJ, and business owner.
Recently, Paris has been more open than ever with her fans.
At the end of 2020, Paris released a documentary This Is Paris on YouTube detailing an extensive look into her life beyond the persona that people best knew her for. Paris opened up about her traumatic experiences as a child and about past abusive relationships she’s been in.
Paris has been dating her current boyfriend, Carter Reum, for a year, and has revealed she’s looking to start a family with him!
“I am really excited just to move on to the next step of my life and finally just have a real life because I really do believe that having a family and having children is the meaning of life,” Paris revealed on The Trend Report podcast.
Paris explained why she waited until she was 39 to take these steps.
“I haven’t gotten to experience that yet because I don’t feel that anyone really deserved that love from me and now I finally found the person who does. So, I cannot wait for that next step,” she explained.
Paris also opened up about what her ideal family would look like.

“We want to have twins first and then I don’t know, either three or four children,” Paris said . When the interviewer says it’s hard to guarantee having twins, Paris replies, “We have been doing IVF so I can pick twins if I like.”
“It was tough, but I knew it’d be worth it,” Paris said.

“I think it’s something that most women should do just to have,” Paris responded when asked why she decided to go the IVF route for her family. “Then you can pick if you want boys or girls. I really want to have twins that are a boy and a girl, so the only way to 100% get that is by making it happen that way.”
Fans were not happy with Paris’ seemingly stating the main reason she was undergoing IVF was to be able to choose to have a boy and a girl twins.
“I just read a story that Paris Hilton… Is doing IVF (invitro fertilization) not because she can’t get pregnant but for the SOLE PURPOSE of being able to have twins & be able to pick it they’re a boy or girl or both,” one fan tweeted.
“There’s so many women who CAN’T get pregnant that try for years with IVF but little miss money can do what she wants because she’s able to afford whatever she wants in life. And THAT’S selfish,” they added .
Fans expressed that it was frustrating to see Paris flaunt the privilege of being able to afford IVF by choice.
“I suspect [Paris] is using IVF for medical reason and taking advantage of the “perk” is what the story is, but it’s frustrating when you have worked to make things better and people with actual influence waste it!” tweeted one fan.
There was a lot of frustration over whether Paris was contributing to the stigma of IVF as a tool to have ‘designer babies.’
“It’s so upsetting & infuriating because those of us suffering with infertility have no choice but to go through IVF for a chance at having a bio child,” one fan shared . “I wouldn’t choose or care about the sex, I just want a child! But IVF didn’t work for us so I’ll never have a bio.”
“Plus, this gives everyone the idea that IVF is a guarantee which makes it even harder for those of us suffering with infertility,” they continued.
” But people thinking it’s a guaranteed pregnancy is probably why a few people congratulated me when they found out we were starting IVF!” they finished .
Overall, fans were not pleased.
What do you think? Do you think Paris choosing to use IVF to guarantee the children she wants is within her rights if she can afford to do so, or do you understand why so many people are upset? Let us know how you feel in the comments below!
