While there are some people who would see being able to spend all day in bed as a blessing, the reality of being stuck in bed for an extended period of time is far from enjoyable.
However, one man who found himself being confined to his bed also managed to make his wife’s life less than enjoyable…so much so that she ended up confiscating his buzzer for getting her attention.
There are some people who are just not very good at being patients.

We all know someone who can make taking care of them really hard work. With this in mind, one woman recently took to Reddit’s Am I The Asshole page to ask, “AITA for taking away my bed bound husband’s buzzer leaving him ‘helpless’?”
However, she did have a pretty valid reason for her actions when she fully explained herself!
She explained that he was bedbound while he recovered from surgery.

“My husband was in an accident and is on temporary bed rest while he heals from surgery. The accident happened where my in-laws live, so we haven’t been able to fly home. Their house is huge, and they already had a buzzer system from back when his late grandfather was sick, so my MIL suggested my husband use it to let us know if he needs something,” this person wrote.
However, she then explained, “my husband has, to everybody’s surprise, been a nightmare patient.”
The husband has apparently been using the buzzer non-stop to summon his wife.
Our poster explained that whoever is the first to hear the buzzer will drop anything then head to his aid. Although, “90% of the time [he asks] them if they could ask me to come to the room.”
The husband apparently rarely has any serious issues and simply wants her to sit with him, which she explained was fine most of the time.
However, they also have a toddler who requires his wife’s attention as well.

“We also have a toddler who I need to take care of so I asked him repeatedly if he could tone it down. He only got worse after that, to the point where the buzzer was going off every 15 minutes because I wasn’t coming quick enough,” she wrote.
Eventually it all got too much when he repeatedly buzzed her while she was trying to get the toddler to settle down for a nap, which lead her to confiscating the buzzer.
Her husband has since said that, by taking the buzzer, she has left him “helpless.”

Although, his wife did point out that he could use his phone to contact her if it was an emergency, but he didn’t like this idea as she apparently forgets to have her phone on her a lot.
The wife ended her story by writing, “Everyone else is divided. I think some people are secretly relieved, but my MIL especially wants me to give it back to him because she’s worried he might try to get things himself and hurt himself if he can’t reach us with the buzzer. [Am I the asshole]?”
The majority of people were fully on the wife’s side, with other bedridden people shocked at the husband’s behaviour.
“Hi, bedridden person here! You are NTA. You have toddler ffs. He could get the things he needs in one go and be fine for a while, just leave everything in reach. And with mobile tech he can certainly entertain himself. MIL can sit with him if she’s worried,” wrote one individual.
Another person joked, “Maybe she should let [him and the toddler] share a room and put them down for naps together. If he’s going to act like a toddler, she should treat him like one.”
So it seems as though the husband will be without his buzzer for the time being.

Yes, like a disgraced America’s Got Talent judge the husband will be buzzer-less for the foreseeable future. Maybe if he learns some self-control he will be allowed to play with it again in the future!
