It’s hard to believe that it’s been almost a year since Squid Game took over everyone’s lives back in September of 2021. Now, after months of waiting, a second season has finally been confirmed by the powers that be!
The South Korean dystopian series captivated Netflix viewers across the globe and the show almost instantly became the streaming service’s biggest original series launch ever.
It was confirmed on Sunday that Netflix has greenlighted a second season of the smash-hit South Korean drama series “Squid Game.”
The show follows a group of cash-strapped adults as they participate in classic children’s games with a deadly twist.
Speaking with CNN in October, Netflix announced that “Squid Game” was the “biggest-ever series at launch” for the company — sorry, “Bridgerton.”
It was the platform’s first-ever Korean series to reach No. 1 in America, having attracted 1.65 billion hours of viewing in the first 28 days of its release.
All this to say if you haven’t watched the first season yet, please stop what you’re doing and go binge it!
Now, after almost a year of waiting, fans of the series can rejoice in the news that Netflix will be bringing us a second season.
“Squid Game” director, writer, and executive producer Hwang Dong-hyuk shared a letter on social media announcing the exciting news to fans.
“And now, Gi-hun returns. The Front Man returns. Season 2 is coming,” he wrote.
As fans of the series know, the show’s main protagonist Seong Gi-hun is a divorced gambler who entered the contest to win the staggering cash prize.
“It took 12 years to bring the first season of Squid Game to life last year,” Hwang Dong-hyuk continued.
“But it took 12 days for Squid Game to become the most popular series ever.”
We can’t wait to see what season two will have in store, and I hope we learn more soon!
