Here’s the thing, I try to avoid refined sugar as much as I can. I do it for my own health . It’s something that’s pretty important to me, and I would want the same thing for my kids. Having said that, I also have a healthy relationship with food , and I would want the same for others, especially kids.
So I was pretty surprised that this one mom got upset at her best friend for allowing her child to have birthday cake. Let’s dive more into this story. Shall we?
We all know that kid’s birthday parties can get pretty wild.

Am I right? There’s a lot of screaming, running around, and yes, there’s usually a birthday cake. That’s what parents should expect when they bring their kid to celebrate another child’s birthday.
So what if you’re a strict parent who doesn’t allow your kid to eat sweets?

That’s exactly the case with this one mom. She took her eight-year-old son to her best friend’s kid’s birthday party. And what happened next was pretty surprising to me.
Get this!

This mom actually got upset at her friend when she found out her son ate a piece of cake. OMG, what? LOL! Here’s what happened. This lady told her son he wasn’t allowed to eat the birthday cake, and when he told the birthday boy, the boy got upset.
He told the kid that his birthday cake was ‘good’ because his mom baked it.

So naturally, the two boys ate the cake. When the mom found out, she wasn’t amused and even posted about the incident on Reddit. What do you think happened next? Oh, yeah, she got a lot of comments from people.
A lot of the comments went like this.

Apparently, this mom was upset that “My son ate cake, got a sugar rush, and crashed, making him cranky for the rest of the day after we left the party.” Um, that’s pretty much what happens after you take your kid to a birthday party.
She even tried to get her friend to discipline her own child.

I mean, what? Come on! It was his birthday. And I really don’t think he forced the other kid to eat the cake. The poor child was probably so happy to finally enjoy some sugar that he quickly obliged, ha, ha.
Do you hear what I’m saying?

Many folks even chimed in by saying that being so strict with your kid’s diet can have major repercussions in the future. They could develop an unhealthy relationship with food that could even turn into an eating disorder. And that is definitely something as a parent you should try to avoid. Do you agree with that point of view?
Check out what this vegan couple said to her.

“We are vegan, but birthdays are all go for my kids, they can have cake and snacks that are not vegan at a birthday party because it’s about celebrating friendships.”
True dat! I completely understand that. Even if you’re strict with your kids on a daily basis and trying to teach them boundaries, there are special occasions when they can just be kids. And that’s all that this was about, no?
So what do you think of this story?

Did this mom go overboard? If it was you, how would you have handled the situation? I think you can still be a good parent and let your kids enjoy sweets from time to time. It’s especially true when it comes to birthdays and other celebrations. There’s a time and place for everything, huh? This time was for the kids to have fun.
