Being a model is a lot of hard work. While some think that modeling is just standing still and taking photos, modeling can be a lot of stress and commitment to dieting, working out, and also dealing with the industry’s beauty standards and societal norms for how “they believe bodies should look.” The beauty industry oftentimes preys on young women and their body image.
Many models have spoken out about the unfair beauty standards in the industry.
Many models have spoken out or even walked away from modeling due to the unfair standards that they believe the industry has projected onto them and other women. Many young girls have developed body dysmorphia or even eating disorders due to this pressure.

Recently, one model showcased the unfair industry standards.
One TikTok user has gone viral for a video that showcases firsthand how the modeling industry can be unfair and outright disgusting to models working for clients—despite their bodies being perfectly fine and the clients hiring them in the first place.
TikTok user @thewizardliz shared the video on her page.
The model said she was at her shoot for a client that day when the photographer told her “not to eat” until the next shoot so that she would lose weight. She didn’t know her friend decided to record the interaction.
The model then began to clap back at the photographer.
The woman in the video began to explain to the photographer that people like him are the reason that young girls develop eating disorders and starve themselves, and that he’s lucky she is confident in her body because it could be harmful to her if she took his advice.
She also told him to tell the client she was “done” with the shoot.
The woman, who was hired by a client, said she wouldn’t continue to do the shoot with a photographer who thinks it’s okay to speak to people in this way. She walked off from the set after telling the photographer off.
The TikTok user also added that the clients had “loved” her look.
She added in the comment section that the client “knew her size” and that they “loved her look.” The clients have also been calling her to apologize to her non-stop after hearing about what happened to her.
She also said she doesn’t feel she was being “too dramatic” because eating disorders are a real issue in the modeling industry.
Anorexia and other eating disorders are actually very common amongst the modeling industry.
Many models feel pressure to stay thin to meet industry standards, and continue to starve themselves to get there. In recent years four different models have actually died from complications with anorexia and eating disorders, showcasing this TikTok user had a valid point.
Others said that it was the best reaction and response.
While some may believe that the TikTok user was “dramatic” or that she overreacted, others celebrated how she responded.
She not only told the photographer off, but she made a point respectfully and honestly, too.
Many people online said she did this and helped “other people, too.”
Many on TikTok pointed out that she not only stood up for herself but also may have helped save the next girl who had to go to that studio and work with that photographer in the room.
That could save another girl from the same commentary and body shaming.
