TikTok user Evan-May Gillott recently shared a discovery she made.
According to the TikTok video she recently shared, Sweet N’ Sour sauce may be one of the “healthier” options on the McDonald’s menu, because it actually comes from some fruit.
Evan-May shared that the sauce is actually made from Apricot.
Evan-May said she was shocked and thought she was the only one who had no idea that McDonald’s Sweet N’ Sour sauce was actually made from apricots. Turns out, it may not be as bad as you might have thought.
According to McDonald’s website, the sauce is both apricot and peach.
“McDonald’s Sweet ‘N Sour blends flavors of apricot and peach flavors with savory spices and leaves a slight lingering heat,” the company’s website reads. In each packet, there are only 50 calories.
But for some, it was not a huge surprise.
As the information is on the restaurant’s website and packaging, not many people were unaware of the fruit add-ins in McDonald’s Sweet N’ Sour sauces.
However, some people found it to be rather surprising that apricots were the base.
Some people said that they had believed that it was actually mango, not apricot, that the sauce was made out of. Others couldn’t believe there was fruit in it at all.
Others thought it was made of different fruits altogether.
One TikTok user said that they thought it had to be pineapple, while another added that it tastes pretty much like plums. One chimed in saying they were going to guess bananas, which is a little far-fetched if you ask me.
Turns out, it’s peach and apricot puree.
Essentially, the sauce is not actual fruit, but instead, it’s made from peach and apricot puree—which, is just jam. And, one TikTok user added that not only is the Sweet N’ Sour sauce made from this, but so is the curry sauce. Who knew!?
