As a young girl who liked to read, few movies spoke to me the way that Matilda did. Who didn’t dream of gaining telekinetic powers and using them to make your life better?
In my mind, the film’s star has stayed a young girl forever, but of course, she was played by a real actress who is celebrating a pretty surprising birthday.

Mara Wilson is best known for her portrayal of the title character in *Matilda*.
She also starred in Mrs. Doubtfitre, Miracle on 34th Street, and Thomas And The Magic Railroad although she largely retired from acting in 2000 and now focuses on podcasts, writing, and being hilarious on Twitter.
Mara was born on July 24th, 1987.
This means that she’s 33 years old today!
I cannot believe the little girl we loved in Matilda is in her 30s — that makes me feel like an ancient swamp witch!
Fans have taken to social media to share birthday messages for the star.
One fan was excited to find out that they shared the same birthday as Mara, writing, “Just found out I share a birthday with Mara Wilson. Y’all can’t tell me [expletive].”
As for Mara herself, it seems like she’s got it covered.
Mara tweeted that she was spending her birthday “eating soup at midnight” which honestly sounds better than some birthdays that I’ve had!
Happy birthday to Mara! We hope 33 treats you well, even if it makes us all feel incredibly old to see you’re all grown up!
