Celebrity scandals can come from all kinds of different places. We’ve all come to expect the photoshop fails or the backlash after controversial tweets or Instagram posts, but one of the most prominent places scandals come from is celebrity parenting.
Kristen Bell learned that the hard way after dishing on her two kids’ potty training experiences and how they differed.
Kristen caused a stir earlier this month when she revealed one of her children was still in diapers at age 5.

In a recent episode of Momsplaining With Kristen Bell , Kristen detailed her potty training experience with her oldest daughter, Lincoln, saying “we merely suggested that she use the toilet in the other room and [she] never wore another diaper beyond that.”
“We were lying in bed giggling about this, my husband and I, like, ‘Why does everyone make a big deal out of this potty training?'”

“It’s so easy. Just tell the kid to use the toilet,” she joked. But then she revealed that it has not been as easy with her youngest daughter, Delta. While Lincoln was just under two years old when she learned, it’s taken Delta much longer.
“Currently, my youngest is 5½, still in diapers,” she revealed.

Kristen’s guest on the show, Maya Rudolph, said, “It’s real relative, isn’t it?” to which Kristen replied, “Yes, because every kid is so different.”
Not everyone agreed with the summary that every kid is different, and they weren’t afraid to share.
Fans took to Twitter to express their opinions.

“Hopefully, she means pull-ups at night… otherwise, that is messed up. We potty-train to speed up the process. But any 4 year old kid, socialized at all, would want out of them at that age,” tweeted one fan.
Other fans sympathized.

“Quit the mom-shaming. Her child won’t be showing up to college still in diapers. She’ll be ready when she’s ready and it’s none of your business,” one fan tweeted in Kristen’s defense.
“My 4 year old is [still in diapers]. I’m having the hardest freaking times!” another fan shared .
Some fans found it “humiliating” that Kristen would share this news about her daughter, but Kristen obviously didn’t agree, judging by her response.
“I also dont think its humiliating if ur kid wears diapers late. Everyone is different. My 5yr old wouldn’t be embarrassed even if she was in diapers during the day! She’s confident & goofy & doesn’t see anything about her beautiful unique self something to apologize for. Xo,” Kristen responded .
After some fans expressed concern about Delta’s development, Kristen also addressed that.

“They left out that shes only in diapers at night, which is pretty normal for a 5 yr old who’s tiny bladder cant take the 10 hr challenge yet :),” Kristen continued , confirming that her daughter was not in diapers full time.
Kristen emphasized to parents who are also struggling with their kids that it’s fine to let them learn things at their own pace.

“You are NOT a failure! Kids are all different! My husband didnt learn to read until 5th grade!!!! 5TH! And he graduated Magna Cum Laude from UCLA. You’re doing just fine. Love em hard, and let em fly. That’s our only job xo,” Kristen told one parent.
She also expressed confusion that anyone cared at all.

“Wouldn’t it be great if everyone paying attention to my home life paid attention to the communities being hit hard by Covid? Or to the economy or literally anything worth paying attention to?” she asked .
When one fan expressed concern over what happens at a sleepover, Kristen’s response was pretty savage.

“Gonna make a guess here: u dont have kids? Pull ups are used at night- they work like padded underwear, no changing involved. Also, it’s not common at all for 6 yr old to have sleepovers. That starts a few years later,” she tweeted .
Of course, Kristen didn’t take issue with the fans who spoke up, and actually ended the exchange positively.
“Your parents sound lovely! theyve proven to have raised a sensitive and vocal confident woman and I hope to be as lucky :)” she wrote .
I guess that’s all cleared up, and we also learned that Kristen is not afraid of clapping back!
