Justin Bieber has been opening up his life to fans, both the highs and the lows, for part of his YouTube documentary in the lead up to his new album coming out on Valentine’s Day.
Justin’s documentary series, “Justin Bieber: Seasons,” has covered a lot of his life since stepping back from the spotlight in 2017.

In the multi-episode documentary, Justin opens up about his struggles with his career and his mental health. He revealed that poor mental health was the reason behind cancelling his Purpose tour while in the middle of it.
In an episode of the documentary released on February 3rd, Justin opened up about this time in his life.

Justin explained that childhood anxiety brought on this “dark period” in his late teens and early 20s, which eventually lead to him becoming addicted to weed, lean (a drug created by mixing codeine with soda), and pills.
Justin revealed how this “dark period” in his life has had ramifications.

While Justin is now sober, during that time in his life he was diagnosed with anxiety, chronic mono, and Lyme disease.
Lyme disease can cause fatigue, lethargy, and heart palpitations and while it can be treated, there is no cure.
Justin revealed his diagnoses on Instagram.
Justin called out those who had been making disparaging remarks about his appearance, writing, “While a lot of people kept saying justin Bieber looks like [expletive], on meth etc. they failed to realize I’ve been recently diagnosed with Lyme disease.”
“Not only that but had a serious case of chronic mono which affected my, skin, brain function, energy, and overall health.”

“These things will be explained further in a docu series I’m putting on YouTube shortly..,” he continued, referring to Seasons .
“You can learn all that I’ve been battling and OVERCOMING!!”

Justin’s positive attitude was obvious, with him writing, “It’s been a rough couple years but getting the right treatment that will help treat this so far incurable disease.”
“And I will be back and better than ever NO CAP,” he concluded.

“No cap” is slang for saying that he’s telling the truth and not lying or exaggerating.
Hailey Bieber took to Twitter to clear up more misinformation.
“Please do your research and listen to the stories of people who have suffered with it for years. Making fun of and belittling a disease you don’t understand is never the way,” she tweeted.
Justin opened up about how he handles dealing with these health concerns.

Justin revealed that he sometimes sleeps in a hyperbaric chamber (a contained, pressurized pod that allows you to breathe pure oxygen) for his mental health.
“Mental health is so important to get on top of,” he said.

“If you have ADHD if you have… something and you don’t want to take medicine, I strongly believe in [the chamber],” he suggested.
Justin also revealed that due to the lethargy caused by Lyme disease, he requires IV infusions to “get out of bed in the morning.”

Justin revealed he receives NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) infusions, which is a process generally used to treat Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.
The infusions help the functioning enzymes in the body to create more energy.
It’s awesome that Justin is being so candid about his struggles with his mental and physical health.

For all his fans that are out there going through similar struggles, seeing Justin deal with and overcome them will definitely be a huge inspiration!
