Following Blake Lively’s lawsuit against Justin Baldoni, the actor and director responded by filing a $250 million lawsuit against The New York Times for reporting on the allegedly false allegations.
Baldoni has also accused Lively’s husband, Ryan Reynolds of “aggressively berating” him while deafening his wife against the director in his 31 December legal filing.
Baldoni accused Reynolds of aggressive behavior
The director and actor of It Ends With Us accused Reynolds of inappropriately berating him at a meeting.
Baldoni’s lawsuit, which was obtained by E! News, reads, “Lively’s husband, Ryan Reynolds, had aggressively berated Baldoni during a meeting at their penthouse in New York, accusing him of ‘fat shaming’ Lively.”
The lawsuit read that Baldoni meant to avoid conflict
According to Baldoni’s filed lawsuit, the actor and director allegedly put in effort to avoid conflict with his co-star and her husband.
“Baldoni, in an effort to avoid further confrontation with Lively and Reynolds and rebuild rapport with his co-star, continued to bend to her will,” the lawsuit filed by Baldoni read.
Baldoni felt the berating was intentional
The director felt that Lively and Reynolds’ “inappropriate and humiliating berating” may have been intentional to make him seem smaller in front of their friends.
He claims the “berating” was “delivered, perhaps intentionally, as other celebrity friends were coming in and out of their penthouse.”
Baldoni explained why he asked about the weight
As Reynolds allegedly responded with “aggression” towards Baldoni following his questioning about Blake Lively’s weight, Baldoni’s lawsuit explains why he had asked about it. He said it was “prompted by Baldoni’s reasonable inquiry into crucial information needed to ensure safety and avoid injury in a scene.”
The director’s legal papers further explained
Baldoni’s lawsuit explains that he had asked about Lively’s weight in preparation for a “physically demanding scene” where his character in It Ends With Us lifts Lively’s.
Baldoni also allegedly asked his trainer, whom he shared with Lively, how much she weighed.
The actor suffers from back problems
The actor’s lawsuit claims he asked in order to avoid further injury to his back, reading, “Baldoni, who suffers from back issues and has multiple bulging discs, made the inquiry to ensure he could safely perform the lift without injury.”
“Unfortunately, the trainer relayed this information to Lively, who then informed Reynolds,” it continues.
Reynolds then confronted Baldoni about the inquiry
Reynolds allegedly confronted Baldoni with such intensity that the director claims he felt the need to apologize for his inquiry.
“The confrontation that followed was so aggressive that Baldoni felt compelled to offer repeated apologies, despite his question being entirely reasonable and made in good faith,” the lawsuit reads.
Lively scratched the lift scene
The actress felt she no longer wanted to perform the stunt scene in the movie, with the lawsuit reading, “Following this incident, Lively refused to perform the lift scene, even though it had already been rehearsed with a stunt double.”
Lively also mentions Baldoni’s queries her weight
In the lawsuit she filed against Baldoni, Lively explains that she understood the alleged query as Baldoni criticizing her weight following giving birth to her fourth child Olin in 2023.
Her lawsuit also reads, “Mr. Baldoni also routinely degraded Ms. Lively by finding back channel ways of criticizing her body and weight.”
Lively’s filing explains she was embarrassed
“Ms. Lively was humiliated to learn that Mr. Baldoni secretly called her fitness trainer, without her knowledge or permission, and implied that he wanted her to lose weight in two weeks,” her lawsuit read.
The actress also accused Baldoni of going “out of his way to message criticisms of her age and weight, neither of which she could change during filming.”
