Who’s going to be the one telling us like it is now ?!
Judy Sheindlin, better known as the famously tough-but-fair television judge to end all television judges Judge Judy, has just announced that the show will be ending in 2021.
‘Judge Judy’ has been on the air since 1996.
Judy’s show was famous for her no-nonsense tough love, and generated tons of memorable lines still being quoted to this day: Don’t pee on my leg and tell me it’s raining, anyone?
There have been some truly iconic moments on the show.
My personal favorite has to be when there was a case of a potentially stolen dog, Judy let the dog decide who he wanted to go home with. I still get a little teary-eyed watching it.
Judy revealed to Ellen Degeneres that the long-running show will be coming to an end.
However, Judy revealed that the show isn’t ending because she feels the need to retire: “I’m not tired! You’re not tired, you’re not supposed to stop!”
Judy basically stated that the show was ending because there was a big enough backlog of reruns to air comfortably.
“I’ve had a 25-year long marriage with CBS and it’s been successful. Next year will be our 25th season, silver anniversary. And CBS, I think, sort of felt they wanted to optimally utilize the repeats of my program because now they have 25 years of reruns,” Judy said.
“So what they decided to do was sell a couple of years worth of reruns.”
So you can still WATCH Judge Judy , just in reruns!
If you’re really craving that new Judy content, don’t worry — she announced that she’s got a new show starting soon after!
“‘Judy Justice’ will be coming out a year later,” Judy revealed.
” Judge Judy you’ll be able to see, next year, a full year, all new shows. The following couple of years you’ll be able to catch all the reruns that CBS has sold to the stations that are currently carrying Judy . After that, Judy Justice will be going elsewhere.”
Thank goodness! I don’t know what I’d do if Judge Judy wasn’t around at all to put people in their place!
Outpourings of love and support came from fans on social media after the news broke.
Fans took to Twitter to share their favorite quotes and moments, including this classic line where Judy explains that “beauty fades, but stupid is forever.”
Some fans had some big dreams for where Judy could go next.
People expressed some interest in having Judy added to the Supreme Court — and honestly, I’ve heard of worse candidates for that kind of responsibility!
There was also a brief scare when people saw that Judy, 77, was trending on Twitter.
Some people feared the worst, so they were actually pretty relieved to hear that it was just because the show was ending.
I don’t know about you, but I’m definitely going to miss my daily dose of Judy.
I’ll definitely still be watching the reruns, but it just won’t be the same.
Do you agree, or do you think 25 seasons is long enough? Let us know in the comments!
