There are a lot of viral challenges out there that don’t make too much sense and that you’re not really supposed to think about too hard. That’s probably what Jennifer Lopez was going for when she tried to start her own, but it looks like social media realized some implications of the challenge that J-Lo didn’t quite foresee for herself.
Jennifer Lopez is pretty much an icon.
She’s the definition of a triple threat — while she began her career as a dancer on In Living Color , her talent as a musician and as an actress have earned her long and successful careers in both fields!
She’s also no stranger to controversy.

Like when she recently defended herself after fans accused her of lying about not having Botox while promoting her new beauty line.
“LOL that’s just my face!” Jennifer responded at the time.
With skin as flawless as hers, we can’t blame fans for wondering if it’s really all natural!

“For the 500 millionth time…I have never done Botox or any injectables or surgery!! Just saying,” Jennifer insisted. “And here is another JLO Beauty secret: try spending your time being more positive, kind and uplifting of others.”
Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like everyone took that advice to heart!

Despite what her absolutely wrinkle-free skin might suggest, Jennifer has been famous for a long time! Her attempt to celebrate a 20-year milestone of her career backfired, and she’s catching a lot of heat on social media.
While celebrating the 20th anniversary of her second album, Jennifer tried to start a challenge.
Posting a video captioned, “The #LoveDontCostAThingChallenge starts now,” Jennifer showed herself playing her song of the same name while removing her jacket, her clothing, and her jewelry while tossing them off into the sand on the beach surrounding her.
Fans were a bit confused.
“What’s the challenge?” one fan asked on Instagram. “Throw our stuff into the sand? Jenny I don’t own jewelry I can afford to lose on the beach.”
Others pointed out that it was a bit tone-deaf to be flaunting her wealth during a pandemic.
Overall, fans were not eager to participate in the challenge themselves.
“Jlo we supposed to throw our valuables on the beach? Is the challenge to find it after we throw it bc we can’t afford to replace it?!?” one fan responded .
“Stop littering, put your mask on, and stay at home,” another replied.
Some fans, however, took the challenge!
Rather than risking losing their items and belongings on the beach, some fans recreated the video in their own homes!
I have to say, this seems like a much smarter idea!
Jennifer even shared some of her favorites to her Twitter page.
Like this fan, who also chose to recreate the moment in her own home, who Jennifer retweeted, adding that she “Slayed it!”
Others found the humor in the moment.
I think if I were to participate in the challenge, I’d have to be throwing mostly costume jewelry I still have from my childhood!
What do you think?
Were some fans taking a silly video too seriously, or should Jennifer have realized that asking fans to toss their belongings into the beach might not have gone over very well? Let us know how you feel in the comments below!
