Ben Affleck gave fans a rare glimpse into his marriage to Jennifer Garner in a recent interview with Howard Stern last week. When asked about how he would handle still being married to the actress, Ben said that he would probably have struggled with getting sober.
The comments blew up over social media and now, Ben’s current girlfriend Jennifer Lopez is speaking out.
Speaking with Howard Stern last week, the actor was asked what his life would be like if he was still married to Jennifer Garner, the mother of his three children.
Ben said he’d “probably still be drinking” because adding: “It’s part of why I started drinking … because I was trapped.”
“I was like ‘I can’t leave ’cause of my kids, but I’m not happy, what do I do?’ What I did was drink a bottle of scotch and fall asleep on the couch, which turned out not to be the solution.”
“The truth was, we took our time, we made the decision … We grew apart,” he continued.
“We had a marriage that didn’t work, this happens, with somebody that I love and respect, but to whom I shouldn’t be married any longer,” he continued.
“Ultimately, we tried. We tried, we tried because we had kids. Both of us felt like we don’t want this to be the model that our kids see of marriage.”
As you might imagine, his comments did NOT go over well at all.
I mean, Jennifer Garney is one of the most beloved celebrities ever, she is so freaking wholesome!
So the internet raged immediately, taking her side without thought.
People were ready to go to war for the star.
Many were saying that they already knew years ago that Garner was too good for Affleck.
These takes could be seen all over the internet.
Many users also brought Pratt into it, considering the fact that he has his own controversies.
But overall the general message on Twitter was: you mess with Jennifer Garner, and you get involved in one messy battle with the internet.
This ended up getting so out of hand that it was trending for days, and making headlines everywhere.
So, after the comments blew up on social media, the actor went on Jimmy Kimmel: Live to clarify what he meant.
“I would never want my kids to think I would ever say a bad word about their mom,” he told Jimmy Kimmel, as per “People.”
He went on to say he thought the interview was “meaningful” and didn’t realize how his comments had been perceived until after.
He felt that the media had twisted his words.
He said that it “made it seem as if I was doing the exact opposite of what I said” by focusing on just one part of his interview.
At the time, rumours were swirling that Jennifer Lopez was angry about Ben’s comments, and now, the 52-year-old is breaking her silence.
In a new interview with People Jennifer said: “This story is simply not true. It is not how I feel.”
“I couldn’t have more respect for Ben as a father, a co-parent, and a person,” she added.
I have no doubt that the three of them have all worked through the misunderstanding for the sake of Jennifer Garner and Ben’s children!
