Sadly, there’s often no way of knowing which products will suit your needs well and which will bitterly disappoint you until at least one person finds out the hard way.
Most of the time, “the hard way” doesn’t have such serious consequences. A product that’s supposed to be helpful actually does nothing or some new food product tastes terrible.
And when we’re dealing with a low-quality pair of shoes, the problem is usually that they just kind of fall apart within a month.
Unfortunately, the effects of a shoddy product can sometimes be much more severe. And one in particular has left a family weighing some difficult options.

For Felicia Hillman of Texas, nothing about her fateful day should’ve been out of the ordinary.

On a trip to Walmart, she bought some sandals that her two-year-old daughter, Rosie would wear to daycare the next day.
The footwear in question were these sandals and it’s not hard to see why they caught her eye.

And as Hillman told Yahoo Lifestyle , she had previously bought jelly sandals for her six-year-old without issue.
However, these ones were apparently designed differently from the sandals Rosie ended up with.
Unfortunately, that difference in design would turn out to matter a great deal.

After only one day of wearing them at daycare, Rosie came home with severe blisters, bleeding, and skin peeling on her toes.
As Hillman wrote on Facebook, “We spent last night in the emergency room.”
But that one day of damage has persisted weeks later and Rosie has had to spend other evenings in urgent care facilities.

Fortunately, it seems as though she’s starting to turn a corner. As Hillman wrote , “After countless antibiotics and creams finally we have some relief. Thank God this steroid cream is working.”
Despite all that she’s been through, Hillman said that her “poor Rosie girl” has been a trooper.

And if she’s had any good luck throughout her ordeal, it’s that she hasn’t experienced any infections. Her feet may be vulnerable, but she’s in no danger of losing them.
However, that doesn’t mean that Rosie is out of the woods yet.

As Hillman told Yahoo Lifestyle , “She is healing slowly and we are going to see a specialist soon.”
Hillman will also take Rosie to see a plastic surgeon, who will determine whether her toes will require skin grafts.
Hillman posted about her experiences to warn other parents about the dangers of buying cheap jelly sandals and most commenters seem to have gotten the message.

As Yahoo Lifestyle reported , her post has been shared 120,000 times and has largely attracted responses like, “Thank God people are sharing this. These shoes are so cute, but they need to be taken off the shelves.”
Strangely, however, Hillman has also received threats and other toxic messages from people who are somehow convinced she caused Rosie’s injuries herself.
As Hillman told Yahoo Lifestyle , “It was too much negative and unwanted attention from nasty people. I just wanted to share what had happened to my child and that was it.”
