A picture doesn’t have to have some sort of profound meaning to be good. But sometimes, a bit of extra backstory can make it a little bit better.
The pictures in this list are all entertaining in their own right. But they all also come with juuuust a little backstory. You know, enough to make them a bit more entertaining.
“This is the sun today in Portugal, because of winds from the Sahara desert that’s carried dust particles.”

This is a pretty interesting pic, actually. You probably shouldn’t stare directly at the sun, no matter how much sand and dust is in front of it. But it’s kind of amazing to think how far sand can travel.
“This elastic band ball I’ve been making for a year. Using elastic bands from our mail.”

When you really think about it, there are a lot of rubber bands in that ball. But that also means that OP gets a lot of them in the mail, which is kind of weird. Guess their mail carrier leaves the envelopes collected together?
“Antique poker table I picked up for $20. Potentially almost 100 years old.”

Man, this table probably saw a lot of history. Even if the people who played poker on it weren’t celebrities or notable figures, they were all still people with their own lives and stories.
“A moth outside my window this afternoon. Poor little fella fell prey to a swallow about half an hour later.”

Moths are kind of cool. You know, when they’re outside, and far away from your closet. Too bad this one became a bird’s dinner, but I guess that’s just the circle of life.
“A bird is nesting in the wreath on our front door. I am now using the garage to get into the house.”

You know it’s springtime when you start finding random bird nests in places around your house. As long as you can avoid the nest for a couple of months, best just to leave ’em be.
“The temperature differential in the store was just right to make the top bottles liquid and the bottom ones solid.”

See, I’d probably walk by that display all confused, because I’d have no idea why some of the coconut oil is liquified, while the rest is solidified. Science, man.
“I stumbled upon this moose in the forest a couple of weeks ago.”

It’s weird to think that some people can just “stumble upon” moose. It’s even weirder to think they could find them in the wild, and not be totally freaked out.
“Smoke covers the village as everyone use woodstoves. [sic]”

Seeing as I didn’t grow up in a small village, this just looks like every video game town or fantasy show setting to me. Very cool, though!
“If you gather a static charge on a broom and then balance it just right it will stand up.”

So the backstory here is that this broom isn’t magical in any way. This is a common prank meant to get people to look silly trying it.
Still interesting, even if it’s a bit of a letdown.
“Crater Moretus and lunar south pole, taken with my home telescope.”

It’s amazing that technology has advanced so much, you can take detailed pictures of the moon with a home telescope! I bet the telescope itself was still pretty expensive.
“A dedicated bench at a local dog park to Speedwalrus, it reads: ‘He ran out of breath before he ran out of road.'”

I’m not sure if this is supposed to be heartfelt, or a little shady. Either way, it’s dedicated to a dog (?) named Speedwalrus, so you be the judge.
“A dedicated bench for Jim, some miles into a hiking trail.”

This one actually looks like it was dedicated to someone who’s still alive, which is pretty interesting. Though, how can we be sure it’s dedicated to a human named Jim, and not a dog named Jim?
“I’m a bartender and I found this shaker no one told me about that gives about 10 cocktail recipes when you twist.”

It’s funny how this bartender probably had a shaker like this for a long time and didn’t notice the recipes on the side. I bet it comes in handy.
“An old man took his tortoise on a walk in my mom’s neighborhood yesterday.”

I don’t need to know why this man has a pet tortoise, but I’m glad he does. Also, the little hat on the tortoise’s hat is absolutely adorable!
“Found a birds nest next to a dog park that is made from dog toy fibers.”

Birds are kind of amazing when you think about it. They’ll literally make a nest out of any old thing. At least all the litter from those dogs toys didn’t go to waste.
“I took these at the same time… Left is with night mode on and right is standard camera settings.”

It’s kind of amazing how the settings on your camera can completely change an image. I never would’ve guessed those two pics were taken at the same time of night.
“This Twinkie, in its original packaging, is 29 years old.”

Yeah… something tells me no one should eat that Twinkie. In fact, it should never be taken out of the packaging. It doesn’t even look like a Twinkie at this point.
“A person in my town has a lot of railroad lights, and yes one of them works when you walk in front of it.”

I’d probably hate being neighbors with this person, mostly because those are a lot of lights. At the same time, though, it’s kind of cool, especially since one of them actually works.
“Father and son looking and “Father and Son” mural I painted of them in West Allis WI.”

Okay, that’s actually pretty wholesome. Like, how many people out there can actually say that they’re on a mural? Not many, I’d bet.
“The last Blockbuster on earth is in my home town.”

This is in a town called Bend Oregon. Just looking at it makes me miss renting movies and video games (even if digital streaming is so much easier).
