Scott Patterson is one of the best parts of Gilmore Girls . He plays the grumpy but lovable Luke Danes, that fans wanted with Lorelai Gilmore (Lauren Graham) since literally day one.
And while fans have nothing but good memories from the show, Patterson has one that he doesn’t really enjoy reliving.
Scott Patterson has a scene on ‘Gilmore Girls’ he would rather forget.
During season three, Luke is helping Lorelai and Sookie out by taking a look at their stove, and they start to comment on the shape of his b**t. But Patterson revealed on his I Am All In with Scott Patterson podcast, that he wasn’t into that at all.
“Objectifying somebody’s body part? Yeah, that was disturbing,” Patterson said.
“It is infuriating because you’re being treated like an object. And it’s disturbing and it’s disgusting, and I had to endure that through that entire scene and many takes … it was the most disturbing time I have ever spent on that set. I couldn’t wait for that day to be over.”
He went on to say that it left him feeling like a piece of meat.
He also pointed out that in the same way it’s not okay to objectify women, it should not be okay to objectify men. The scene likely would not have happened if it had been the other way around.
“I never said anything so I was angry at myself for never saying anything but, you know, I had this job and I didn’t want to make waves and all that.”
It left him questioning how he was viewed on the show , and by the people working on the show.
“Stand there in front of all those people filming and this is how the creator of that show sees that character.” he said.
“That you can humiliate him and take away his dignity that entire scene and that’s okay. That’s the one thing I hate about this episode is that scene.”
Still, Patterson gave credit to Melissa McCarthy and Lauren Graham for their acting in the scene.
Patterson credits them for making it funny, but overall, he could have clearly done without it. Thankfully, overall, it was the only scene that seemed to infuriate him so much.
