Some shows are just timeless, and Gilmore Girls is definitely one of them. Even though a lot of the dialogue and jokes reference timely pop culture when the show was released 20 years ago, the themes and ideas still feel fresh even when watching it now, which is why the show has remained so many people’s favorite over the years.
*Gilmore Girls* is one of the most iconic shows from the 2000s.
The show followed the most envy-inducing mother-daughter duo ever, Lorelai and Rory Gilmore, as they navigated their lives in the small town of Stars Hollow, balancing Lorelai’s overbearing but well-meaning parents, complicated love lives, and Rory’s Ivy League dreams.
The show ran from 2000 to 2007, but in 2016 a follow-up special was released on Netflix.
Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life was a sequel to the show that showed what happened to our beloved characters nine years later and was very popular, largely due to the huge success of the original series.
The very first episode of *Gilmore Girls* aired on October 5th, 2000.
That means this year the show is celebrating it’s 20th anniversary — and if that doesn’t make you feel old, I don’t know what will! The show itself is now older than Rory was when the show began.
Fans took to social media to celebrate the anniversary of such an iconic show.
In honor of the show’s 20th anniversary, who do you think had the best relationship on the show? I think that Jess was the best boyfriend for Rory, but Luke and Lorelai will always have my heart as one of the best couples on TV. What do you think? Let us know in the comments!
