Actor and stunt double Andrew Dunbar, best known for his work on Game of Thrones , Line of Duty, Krypton, and Derry Girls , passed away suddenly on Christmas Eve, as reported by The Independent .
“To say we are shocked and saddened at the passing of Andrew Dunbar is an understatement.”
“We have so many fond memories of the years Andrew worked with us,” a spokesperson for The Extras Dept, an Irish agency that represented Dunbar, said in a statement.
Dunbar had worked as the body double for Theon Greyjoy and as various extras throughout the show’s run.
“He was so versatile we could cast him in anything, he was such a talented performer he would always end up being featured, and he was so adored that he was always requested by productions again and again,” The Extras Dept statement continued.
“But most of all he’ll be remembered by his kind soul and infectious personality.”
Alfie Allen, who played Theon Greyjoy, posted a tribute to his Instagram stories, writing, “Andrew was an actor who was also a stand-in as Theon on GoT.”
“Extremely shocked and saddened to hear of his passing.”
“To lose a loved one so young, I can only imagine what his family are going through. RIP Andrew x*x.”
Pamela Smyth, a head makeup artist on ‘Game of Thrones,’ also released a statement.
“Even among the thousands of extras that came through the crowd room on Thrones – Andrew always stood out. Always professional and mannerly with a big broad beaming smile,” she said .
“A beautiful soul – he will be missed by all the GoT family.”
Fellow Game of Thrones extra and star of Game of Thrones: The Last Watch documentary Andrew McClay also wrote a tribute to Dunbar, saying, “Everyone always wanted Andrew. There was just something about him that was special.”
“I always thought Andrew lived in the moment and he always looked out for everyone else, including me.”
“After a challenging day or crappy weather, or difficult times, he’d make you stop and talk it out. So when I heard he’d died suddenly on Christmas Eve, it just broke me. I’ll never make any sense of it. He was a true person, a talented, kind and decent man and he had a full and good heart.”
No cause of death has been revealed.
Dunbar was in his 30s at the time of his death. Our thoughts are with his friends, family, and loved ones at this time.
