Our beloved Joker is coming back in a second installment, and now we have a first look at what seemed to be Oscar award-winning Joaquin Phoenix’s first day back on set courtesy of filmmaker Todd Phillips who shared the picture on Instagram and left a cryptic caption.
The director made an unofficial announcement of the sequel earlier this year via an image of the script and another pic of Phoenix reading through the screenplay.
Keep reading for the details.
From The Stables of Todd Phillips
Phillips shared the picture of Phoenix on the set of Joker 2 or Joker: Folie a Deux as officially named, and the actor was seen in the character getting a shave from one of the workers he was taken to at the end of the first installment.
He captioned the picture “Day 1. Our boy.” Phoenix looked right in character for Joker 2 and seemed to have lost a major amount of weight, as his ribs and frail arms were very obvious in the snapshot while he looked motionless for the shave.
The filmmaker then shared a teaser with the film’s release date while confirming that Lady Gaga will fit into the big shoes of the iconic DC antihero Harley Quinn.
Margot Robbie Supports Gaga As Harley Quinn
This will be the second time Quinn has appeared in live action and has been played by Margot Robbie on two occasions. Following the choice and confirmation of Lady Gaga as the next Harley Quinn by new DC Studios head James Gunn, Robbie has expressed her support towards Gaga taking a shot at the character.
Robbie also admitted to feeling proud to have built a strong foundation for Harley Quinn
and now actors can have the chance to play it.
‘Joker 2’ May Likely Be A Musical
The second installment of Joker may be a musical, and fans are divided by the moves. While a section is excited, others hope Phillips isn’t biting more than he can chew.
But the addition of Lady Gaga shows that they’re a step in the right direction, and luckily for the DC Universe fandom, Phoenix himself can hold a note thanks to his 2005 portrayal of country singer Johnny Cash in Walk The Line.
Lady Gaga Is No Stranger To Musicals
Gaga is not new to the world of musicals, making her addition a round peg in a round role. She featured alongside Bradley Cooper in the 2018 Romance/Musical A Star Is Born and the Shallow soundtrack from the production got her first Oscar for Best Original Song.
We can’t wait to see her ace it on Joker 2.
