Jason Momoa is about to make his triumphant return in season three of the ambitious Apple TV series See , which is set to be the final chapter in the post-apocalyptic story.
It’s no secret that between the Aquaman series and Dune, Momoa’s enjoyed quite the hot streak as a Hollywood leading man in recent years. But despite some misgivings with a technical decision or two on his latest series, he’s gone on record as considering See the greatest thing he’s done to date.
And it seems that enough people have agreed to make See a worthwhile prospect for Apple TV, but you’ll have less time than you think to catch up if you haven’t checked it out yet.
And judging by the new trailer the streaming platform has just released, it looks like the tribes of Paya are headed for an explosive and perilous climax.
It’s been a year in Paya since the end of season two and in that time, a serious new development has gripped the world.
Because while its remaining primitive humans have long dealt with the fact that none of them are able to see thanks to a virus outbreak from hundreds of years prior , the trailer immediately makes it clear that this is no longer a fact of life for everyone.
As we can see here, sighted babies are being born again and that has surprisingly destructive implications for the post-apocalyptic society.
And those implications are what will finally drive Momoa’s character Baba Voss out of his solitude in the forest.
Although he parted ways with his family after defeating his nemesis last season, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that he will now have to protect them yet again after the new phenomenon of sighted children gives a scientist a sinister idea.
As we can see in the trailer, that idea comes in the form of a new weapon, a catapult that launches explosives.
Given the destructive power of this weapon in society that’s more used to melee combat, it’s hardly a surprise to hear Voss’ brother Edo say, “The first nation to harness sight will dominate the world.”
And indeed, that very ambition has turned Paya into a war-torn land as the neighboring Trivantians (and their special weapon) seek to invade it.
And while you can get a sneak peek at what’s to come here, your first chance to truly fill in the blanks will come on August 26.
From there, it will only take eight weekly episodes until the series’ conclusion unfolds.
Because while we have a clear sense of the stakes at play thanks to the trailer, the execution of these big ideas still has to satisfy us.
