There are some pop culture figures who just seem larger than life. Big, bold, bright, and beautiful figures who dominate the world while they’re in it who are just inimitable no matter how hard people try.
For once, I’m not talking about myself (although maybe all that applies — I’ll let you be the judge), I’m talking about the music legend Freddie Mercury, who passed away on 29 years ago on November 24th.
There are a lot of music icons in the world from back when not just anyone could be a rockstar.
The era of musicians needing that perfect mix of vocal ability, musicianship, stage presence, fashion sense, and pure charisma to command the stage and the public’s attention is kind of over, but we still can celebrate the legends from that time: Elton John, David Bowie, Mick Jagger, Prince, Elvis, Janis Joplin, and the list goes on.
But obviously, one of the biggest names on that list was the king of Queen.
Freddie Mercury was perhaps rock music’s greatest showman.
Freddie was the total package, and not only was he magnetic to watch for all of those reasons, he also had an absolutely killer voice that still to this day gives me goosebumps.
Every day is a good day to honor and celebrate Freddie, but today in particular has a lot of people remembering the iconic voice and man himself.
Queen is one of rock and roll’s greatest bands.
It’s hard to name a bad Queen song, but the good ones can go on forever: ‘Killer Queen,’ ‘I Want To Break Free,’ ‘We Are The Champions,’ ‘Another One Bites The Dust,’ ‘We Will Rock You,’ ‘Don’t Stop Me Now,’ and of course, ‘Bohemian Rhapsody,’ along with many, many others.
Freddie tragically passed away at the age of 45 on November 24th, 1991.
Freddie passed away from bronchal pneumonia resulting from Freddie’s fight with AIDS, which had been a private battle Freddie had fought for years before announcing the news less than 24 hours before his passing.
It’s hard to believe it’s already been 29 years since we lost this legend.
People are sharing their tributes to the music legend online.

Freddie’s longtime bandmate Brian May shared a message, writing , “Missing you Freddie, on this day. Rest in Peace. Rock in Eternity. Bri.”
As emotional as this day might be for us, it must be even more so for the people who knew Freddie personally like Brian.
Fans also shared tributes online.
“Today is the 29th anniversary of Freddie Mercury’s death. Somehow, I miss someone who was gone before I was even born,” one fan shared .
Honestly, this makes total sense to me. Someone can have a huge impact on your life long after their death!
