As a parent, giving your child a bad at-home haircut is kind of a rite of passage. Who among us, as kids, didn’t show up to school with sticky-up bangs, an uneven bob, or the dreaded bowl cut?
Even celebrity parents aren’t immune to this curse, as musician Grimes showed off on her Instagram story.
Musician Grimes is no stranger to having people discuss her and her baby.

Partly because the baby’s father is billionaire Tesla CEO Elon Musk, and also partly because the unique name that they chose for their baby, X AE A-Xii, caught so many people’s attention when the baby was born in May of last year.
The name has a long history.

Initially, the couple announced his name as X Æ A-12, although that was later changed to X AE A-Xii, as symbols and numbers cannot be used in legal names in California. There was a lot of debate (even from the couple themselves) about how the name was pronounced.
If you’re a bit confused about that, don’t worry, you can just call him X!

Even though the parents themselves have given different pronunciation guides on the baby’s name, it shouldn’t matter all that much — they just refer to the baby as “X” when they talk about him!
Now baby X is making people talk for a new reason — his brand new at-home haircut, courtesy of his mom!

Grimes shared a series of photos to her Instagram documenting the process of giving X a haircut with shaved sides and a longer faux-hawk on top.
“Haircut inspired by the last kingdom on Netflix which is a masterpiece,” she wrote of the hairstyle.
Grimes wasn’t entirely sold on the end result, and neither was Twitter.

“Not sure this haircut went well but he’s Viking now,” Grimes captioned another shot showing the look.
Some fans took to social media to express their opinion on the baby’s new ‘do, with some parents commiserating over the experience. “Ask my oldest about her bangs in first grade. Trial and error girl, but you [tried],” one fan wrote .
Others weren’t entirely sure of the safety of this move.
“Its great shes cutting his hair but omg with how fast babies move its scary to think she was using scissors,” one fan wrote .
Luckily, Grimes avoided any scissor accidents!
Some fans, however, loved the look!

“Sorry but I understand grimes’ mind. I would absolutely give my kid a viking haircut after watching a show about vikings and thinking it’s cool,” another fan tweeted .
It does have a certain style!
For some it was a big hit.
“I guess in grimes’ defense if i had a baby in quarantine right now and i could get away with cutting its hair however i wanted bc no one really HAS to see it i WOULD be giving it very funny cuts,” one fan wrote .
Grimes’ second career as a hairdresser for babies might not be in the works just yet.

The great thing about babies is you can kind of do whatever you want to their hair and wardrobe and they won’t really mind, so it’s a great way to play around and find a look you love!
