Everyone knows that having children and raising a family is incredibly costly . Children need a lot of supplies in order for them to be well fed, clothed, and taken care of. Many parents don’t truly understand just how much it costs to have kids until they actually have them. And, even then, they sometimes struggle to make ends meet for their family .
Kids definitely cost more than adults do at times.
If you think about it, raising children means they are constantly changing and growing, so you are always updating their clothing, needing new sizes for diapers, and different types of food.
With prices skyrocketing for goods, people are desperate.
Formula shortages, inflation prices, and price gauging has caused many families to struggle in order to support their children and their families altogether. Sometimes, it just takes a little help from a stranger to get by.
One former Walmart employee opened up on TikTok about his experience working at the big box chain.
In a TikTok stitch with another user saying, “if you caught someone stealing, no you didn’t,” talking about the price of baby products and the formula shortage, former Walmart greeter thatssoobrandon shared that he used to let people steal particular things often.
He shared he was the person who checked receipts before you left the store.
When customers leave, the TikTok user was the one who checked their carts and receipts to make sure that they weren’t sealing. However, he admitted there were times when he saw—mostly women—with Pampers or baby formula that wasn’t on their Walmart receipt.
But, when he saw this, he didn’t stop them.
The TikTok user admits that he allowed the women to go and simply told them to have a nice day, instead of turning them into the store authorities. He said that he understands that having kids is expensive.
He also shared that he didn’t “get anything” from turning people in.
“In my store, and the company in general, we didn’t really get a reward for the amount of stuff we caught people stealing,” he said in his video .
He said that his boss would be annoyed, but it wasn’t his problem.
Obviously, not turning a shoplifter in would annoy any boss. However, he said he didn’t really care because, at the time, he was only making $11.50 an hour.
Many people on TikTok commented, praising the former employee.
“Ok it’s not good to take things without paying, but the mothers who take this is for the need of their child….you did a great job…your wonderful,” shared one TikTok user.
Some said Walmart “wasn’t hurting” from losing a few sales like this.
“For big companies why do workers care, they probably don’t get what they should anyway help each other out some people really need it,” said one person in the comments.
However, some felt if you can’t afford children, you shouldn’t have them.
Other users felt as though if you are going to have children, you should ensure you can afford it. If you have to steal in order to take care of your kid, don’t have them.
And, those who live outside of the U.S. were shocked that people stole for their kids.
“Wait? What? Is it normal for parents to have to steal to get by in the US? The only stolen goods in stores here is energy drinks and chocolate,” shared another user.
Crazy stuff.
