Summer can be an excellent time for new hair styles, especially if you’re going short. The hot sun and cool breeze can be a great combination when you have less hair on your head weighing you down, and going short lets you experiment with new styles as it grows back out.
Even kids should get in on the fun of a dramatic summer cut, if they want to!
David Schwimmer seems like he’d be a pretty cool dad.
David, best known (of course) as Ross on Friends or as the voice of Melman the giraffe in the Madagascar films, has a nine-year-old daughter named Cleo and, from social media, it looks like David’s a pretty great and supportive dad.
When you’re a kid, having control over your hair can be a pretty big deal.
So many of us have stories about how our parents wouldn’t let us cut or dye or style our hair the way we wanted to — and while I may be grateful that no photos could be taken of me rocking an emo cut, I still wish my parents had let me experiment a bit with cool styles!
David Schwimmer’s daughter, Cleo, decided that she wanted to experience a fun summer cut for herself.
David shares Cleo with his ex-wife Zoë Buckman, and she looks like the perfect mix of her parents! It’s clear that her long brown locks came from her mom, but it looks like Cleo decided she wanted to go in a bold direction for the summer.
Zoë shared a shot of Cleo with a brand new shaved head!
“The world is saying ‘[burn] it down and rebuild’ and the babies are listening,” Zoë wrote. “I see how kids today challenge norms and standards in a way that we didn’t, and that, amongst other things, gives me hope!”
Zoë also shared a picture showing it had been her who had done the buzz herself.
She looks adorable, and so much like her dad with her new cut! I’m sure she’ll appreciate the coolness and lightness during the summer heat — hopefully she remembers her sunscreen, though!
Cleo isn’t the only celebrity kid to take the buzz plunge.
Pink’s daughter Willow has also rocked a daring short cut.
“Loving my punk rock daughter,” Willow’s dad Carey Hart wrote alongside this shot on Instagram. “Remember everyone, fly your own flag. There is no box to be put in. Own it, love it, and if anyone has a problem with it, tell them (politely) to move on.”
And of course, *Stranger Things*’ Millie Bobbie Brown was rocking the look pretty early on.
Sure, she was doing it for an acting role, but it looked adorable on her — as did all the fun short styles she tried out while it was growing out.
Will Smith’s daughter, Willow, also shaved her head when she was 12.
While Willow, now 19, has gone through many different hairstyles (including back to a shaved head most recently), it was a pretty shocking choice, given that she was on her “Whip My Hair” tour at the time.
Will had some pretty smart insight into the whole thing.
“When you have a little girl, it’s like how can you teach her that you’re in control of her body? She can’t cut my hair but that’s her hair,” Will said in an interview at the time.
“She has got to have command of her body,” Will said.
Willow’s mom, Jada Pinkett-Smith, also wrote on Facebook about the issue, stating, “This is a world where women [and] girls are constantly reminded that they don’t belong to themselves — that their bodies are not their own, nor their power or self-determination.”
“I made a promise to endow my little girl with the power to always know that her body, spirit and her mind are her domain.”
It looks like letting young girls experiment with their hairstyles can be pretty powerful stuff! We think Cleo looks great and really rocks the style, and hopefully she feels empowered knowing she has control over her looks!
