It’s hard to accept change, especially when things have been a certain way for so long. The sky is blue, water is wet, and Tom Bergeron with Erin Andrews hosts Dancing With The Stars. Of course, only two of those things are true these days, and an executive producer on the show has opened up as to why that is.
*Dancing With The Stars* has pretty much ruled the airwaves for almost two decades.
The show, which started in 2005, follows celebrities and professional dancers as they compete for the mirrorball trophy to show that they’re the best dancer in the group.
For almost the show’s entire run, it was hosted by Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews.
However, Tom surprised many fans when he revealed that he would not be returning for the newest season, and not by his own choice.
This was a controversial move as many fans felt Tom (and Erin) were both beloved staples of the show. They were replaced by Tyra Banks, who took over as host for season 29.
The show’s executive producer Andrew Llinares has opened up about the controversial decision.
“I think it’s all about evolution. I think any show like this that has been on many, many seasons needs to continue to evolve,” he said.
“I think changing the host was all about evolution, it was about making the show feel fresh, making it feel new [and] kind of make it reach out — maybe to a new audience as well, as well as the audience that’s been there for years,” he went on.
“I think it’s working brilliantly with the one host. I think it’s really refreshed the pace of the show, actually,
“I think it’s taken it to a new pace, in terms of moving faster and just feeling different. I think there’s a real danger when a show’s been on for a long time that the audience almost gets bored of the rhythm.”
What do you think? Are you behind the choice or not? Let us know in the comments!
