Parents are tasked with a seemingly impossible job : preparing their kids to be functional adults while simultaneously setting boundaries and giving them space to grow .
It isn’t easy, and every situation is unique. That said, the magic of social media allows parents a glimpse into how other people are raising their kids. One dad is winning all kinds of praise for the boss way that he handled things after his daughter bailed on her skateboard.
Skateboarding is a fun, inexpensive pastime for kids and their parents.

The Tony Hawk video game series helped bring skateboarding back into the mainstream in the late ’90s, and the kids who played those games are now raising kids of their own.
This influencer is teaching his daughter how to skate.

Robert, who runs the Instagram account @chasing.sage , is clearly a committed parent, as you can see him hanging out with his kids in practically every post. One recent post has gone viral, and when you see what happens, you’ll understand why.
He shared this video.

In the video , you can see that Robert’s decked his five-year-old daughter Aubrin out in protective gear so she can try to drop in on a homemade ramp in their backyard. Despite his best efforts to help her, things go awry.
His daughter bails pretty hard.

In a thump that’ll make any parent wince, Aubrin loses her balance and smacks her head into the ramp. Even though, as the caption states, the bail caught Robert off guard, he quickly rushed to Aubrin to assess the situation.
He displays some incredible parenting skills.

Robert responds perfectly to the situation: expressing concern and giving Aubrin space to feel her feelings. He gives her positive reinforcement (she did drop in perfectly, after all) and leaves the next steps up to Aubrin.
Aubrin wanted to go again.

After the show of support from her dad, Aubrin was able to gather herself and decided to have another go at skateboarding. This time, with her dad at her side, she’s able to complete the stunt without bailing.
This is basically Parenting 101.

Robert’s first words to Aubrin after her fall were perfect: “Did it scare you or did it hurt you?”
This not only allows Aubrin to express herself, it doubles as a fast way for a parent to assess whether their kid needs emotional support or medical attention.
Robert’s followers loved it.

Unsurprisingly, a cute video of a kid falling and then getting comforted by an awesome parent proved to be a hit online. To date, the video has racked up nearly 60,000 likes and commenters are basically unanimous in their praise.

It’s well worth watching this short video. It’s more than just a video that’ll tug at your heartstrings, it’s also an effective instructional tool for parents who find themselves in similar situations.
