I’m the first person to give millennials flack about anything — it’s kind of my job, after all. However, there is one trend that they’ve pioneered that has single-handedly changed the way I see this entire generation and to that, I say thank you.
What’s this amazing trend, you ask? Well, it’s called the Coastal Grandmother aesthetic, and it’s blowing up all over TikTok .
TikToker Lex Nicoleta is widely credited as the pioneer of the Costal Grandmother aesthetic.
Think of every Nancy Meyers film ever made combined with Diana Keaton’s turtlenecks and easy, breezy blouses on the beach and BAM — you have the Coastal Grandmother aesthetic .
Coastal Grandmothers don’t have to live by the water or be grandmothers to achieve the lifestyle — it’s more of a state of mind.
Costal grandmothers love hosting their girlfriends at the lake house, sipping on buttery chardonnays, and gardening in one of their many chic sun hats.
In summary, it’s about all the classics — diamond studs, pearls, linen pants, button-down blouses, manicured short nails, French country kitchen decor — you get the idea.
It’s not just an aesthetic, though. It’s a lifestyle. A dedication to the school of Jane Fonda, Diane Keaton and Martha Stewart.
It’s not just TikTokers getting in on the trend, though.
Our very own millennial queen Annie Hathaway recently shared her love of the Coastal Grandmother aesthetic in a recent Instagram post.
“I have been ready for #coastalgrandmother chic since before TikTok was born,” the Princess Diaries star wrote alongside the PERFECT coastal chic outfit.
