Who among us doesn’t have an HGTV addiction? There’s nothing that scratches that spot in your brain quite like sitting down and watching people renovate and decorate homes that most of us could never afford — or maybe that’s just me.
One of the best shows to do this for is Fixer Upper , hosted by Chip and Joanna Gaines, but for the past year, the couple has taken a break from filming.

In a sit-down interview with Oprah Winfrey, the couple discussed why exactly they decided to take a year away from cameras, and the reason behind the decision was different for Chip and for Joanna.
“There were numerous things,”
“On my side it was, when you’re filming for four or five years, you begin to lose the ‘why.’ It’s now just this thing of like we’re just showing up.
“I think towards the end we just lost steam, we lost the purpose of it,” Joanna said.
“We wanted to wake up every day and say this is why we’re doing this,” Joanna went on , adding that it “almost felt like it was wagging our tail and it was controlling us.”
Chip, however, had a more personal reason for needing a break.
“Really what happened — and was the truth for Jo and I — was it was no big deal for her, but for me to become famous, I lost a part of myself that was really…” Chip revealed , trailing off.
“It was sad,” he finished.
“I would say it took me a year or two while I was still filming to try to grapple with what exactly it was that I was losing,” Chip explained.
Chip said the time off was very much needed.
He said that he was able to “hunker down and really kind of try to unpack what it was about fame that seemed so incompatible with my personality.”
Well, I don’t know about you, but I’m going to be really happy to be able to watch Chip and Joanna on TV again!
