British celebrity chef Gary Rhodes, best known for his work on MasterChef, MasterChef USA, H**l’s Kitchen, and Rhodes Around Britain , has passed away at the age of 59 according to a statement from his family .
“The Rhodes family are deeply saddened to announce the passing of beloved husband, father and brother, Gary Rhodes OBE.”
The statement says that Rhodes passed away on Tuesday evening with his wife Jennie by his side.
Two Dubai hotels in which Rhodes had restaurants also released a statement.
“Not only has the industry lost a true culinary legend, we have also lost an inspirational human being and a very dear friend,” the statement reads.
“No words can express our sadness at Gary’s death or our gratitude for the opportunity to work with him.”
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Rhodes family.”
TV chef Ainsley Harriot tweeted, “So sad to hear the news about Gary Rhodes. A true culinary icon and a lovely man. Sending my love and thoughts to his wife Jennie and their boys. RIP, my friend. xx”
Rhodes’ ‘MasterChef’ costar Gordon Ramsay also tweeted a message of condolences.
“This man is the reason I even took up cooking,” wrote one fan on Twitter.
Friends and fans alike have followed suit with their own messages of love and support.
Comedian Limmy shared that he’d, “Had the pleasure of meeting Gary Rhodes at a charity do once. He was surprisingly down to earth, and VERY funny.”
Fellow chef Nigella Lawson left a touching note.
The Michelin Guide UK wrote , “We are all very sad to hear of the passing of Gary Rhodes. He was an inspirational chef and British gastronomy owes him a huge debt. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.”
Rhodes will be remembered for his culinary skills as well as his kind and generous personality.
