Michelle Trachtenberg’s death at just 39 has hit hard. Fans, friends, and former co-stars are all mourning. According to the NYPD, she was found “unconscious and unresponsive” in her Manhattan apartment on Wednesday, Feb. 26, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
She started acting as a toddler

Michelle began acting early, landing commercials at age 3. From there, things took off — she starred in Harriet the Spy and later, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Gossip Girl. Born in NYC on Oct. 11, 1985, acting quickly became her world. One of her first major roles was in 14 episodes of The Adventures of Pete & Pete.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer changed everything for her

Michelle became widely known after joining Buffy in season 5 as Dawn Summers — Buffy’s younger sister. Dawn wasn’t just an ordinary sibling; she was a mystical “key” disguised as a human. The season ended with Buffy sacrificing herself to save her. Michelle remained a regular until the show ended in 2003.
Her career continued to thrive

After Buffy, Michelle kept landing major roles — Gossip Girl, Eurotrip, Ice Princess, and 17 Again. She played Georgina Sparks in 28 episodes of Gossip Girl from 2007 to 2012, then recently reprised the role in the 2023 reboot on Max.
